NIRF 2024 Rankings are out. As per the latest NIRF 2024 rankings, IIT Delhi ranks #2 under the category 'Engineering'.

The GATE 2026 registrations are ongoing for admission to ME/MTech courses. By Oct 9, 2025, aspirants can complete their online registration process with the late fee payment. The GATE 2026 exam dates are Feb 7, Feb 8, Feb 14, and Feb 15, 2026.

The JEE Main 2026 registration process for the first session for IIT Delhi admission to BTech, BArch, and BPlan courses is expected to begin in Nov 2025.
The UCEED 2026 registration portal is open for IIT Delhi admission to the B.Des course. With the regular fee, the deadline to register is Oct 31, 2025. Further, the UCEED Exam 2026 will be conducted on Jan 18, 2026.
The IIT JAM 2026 registration has now begun for admission to the MSc course. The last date to register is tentatively Oct 12, 2025. Furthermore, the exam will be held on Feb 15, 2026.

IIT Delhi admission process is entrance-based, except for the PG Diploma course. For BTech admission, IIT Delhi accepts JEE Main and JEE Advanced entrance exam scores, followed by the counselling round. For IIT Delhi MBA admission, candidates must have a valid CAT score. IIT Delhi admission 2025 is entrance-based for all the courses. The application forms are available on the institute's official website. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) offers a list of courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. IIT Delhi offers a full-time Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme with a duration of four years. Eligible students must have good scores in the JEE Advanced exam for BTech at IIT Delhi. Shortlisted candidates are allotted seats through JoSAA counselling.

BTech at IIT Delhi is available across 14 specialisations, namely CSE, Mathematics & Computing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation), Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Engineering Physics, among others. IIT Delhi MSc course is available in different specialisations. The mode of education is full-time. This two-year PG course is spread across four semesters. IIT Delhi MSc admission differs from one specialisation to another. For the MSc in Chemistry programme, the selection is done based on the IIT JAM score followed by CCMN counselling. As per the latest NIRF report 2023-24, the total student intake for the IIT Delhi four-year UG course was 4312. The four-year UG courses (BTech and BDes) emerged as the most popular courses at IIT Delhi, with two-year PG courses (MTech, MSc, etc.) coming in at a close second, with 3568 students enrolling for the same. Comparing the categories, it is clear the IIT Delhi Engineering courses are the most popular choice amongst students, while the IIT Delhi Management courses saw a decent participation with 243 students.

Gender Diversity:

IIT Delhi saw a consistently low female participation with 19% of females in UG courses and 18% for PG courses

This clearly highlights the ongoing gender parity issues at IIT Delhi, in spite of national-level initiatives, such as supernumerary seats for women. The significant ratio also points at the obvious gender imbalance when it comes to Engineering courses at IIT Delhi.

Regional Diversity:

With a staggering 90%-94% of the total intake being from out-of-state, IIT Delhi’s Pan-India appeal is clearly visible. The UG courses, such as BTech and BDes saw 90% out-of-state candidates

IIT Delhi Application Process 2025

The IIT Delhi application process is carried out online mode. The application is completed only after the payment of the required application fee. Candidates shall ensure that all the details are mentioned in the application correctly. Some of the popular courses along with the respective application procedures are explained below:

For BTech course admission, aspirants need to complete the application form for JEE (Main) through the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) (nta.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 625 and INR 325 for girls. Read more about JEE Application Form 2025. The registration process for JEE Main Session 2 is already over.
MTech candidates are required to register for GATE through the official website of the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) (appsgate.iitd.ac.in). The application fee for boys is INR 1,500 and INR 750 for girls. Read more about the GATE Application Process.
For MSc, applicants need to complete the IIT JAM Application Form.
For PhD/PG courses, aspirants are required to apply through IIT Delhi's official website (iitd.ac.in) apart from the accepted exam registration.

IIT Delhi Scholarships 2025

IIT Delhi scholarship schemes are provided to encourage meritorious students. It facilitates financial support through these scholarships to UG, PG, and Doctoral course students. Candidates need to meet the criteria to avail of a scholarship. In the below table, the criteria and scholarship details are mentioned:

I am decently satisfied with the campus life.

Placements: 80% of students in Production and Industrial Engineering are placed during the 2024 placement season. The average package during placements is around 20 to 25 LPA. Students are placed in both core and non-core job roles, such as consultancy, finance, product management, etc.

Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure available on the campus are quite good. We have Wi-Fi all over the buildings. Almost every classroom and lab has A.C. The facilities provided to us in the hostels are also good. The mess food is decent, and we also have pretty good sports equipment.

Faculty: Teachers are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. They teach us pretty well. The course curriculum also seems relevant to the industry. Semester exams are quite hectic, considering we have quizzes/exams every month during the semester. But, these exams are quite manageable.

I am absolutely satisfied because of the quality of food and good placements.

Placements: About 85% of students get placed. The highest package is 2 crores per annum, and the lowest package is 12 LPA. The average package is 45 LPA. Recruit companies for our course are consultancies, construction companies, manufacturing firms, etc. More than 85% of students got internships in various companies like Air India, Microsoft, Texas Instruments, and Goldman Sachs. Top roles like energy and environment technocrat, energy and environment engineer, etc., are offered here.

Infrastructure: Everything is good. It has full Wi-Fi and various labs. The quality of food is just good. The environmental engineering lab is equipped for analyzing chemical and microbiological contaminants in various media like air, water, wastewater, and soil. It houses advanced instruments such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Faculty: Teachers are well-experienced and they provide quality teaching. The course curriculum is relevant, and it makes students industry-ready. Semester exams in this college are not hard. The pass percentage is 80%. They are highly qualified and knowledgeable. IIT Delhi generally attracts experienced and knowledgeable faculty members who are experts in their fields. They are passionate about teaching. Many students find the faculty's passion for teaching to be a positive aspect. Professors are reported to be helpful throughout the course duration.

Negative Aspects of Production and Industrial at IIT Delhi (fictional): Limited focus on modern technologies, outdated curriculum in parts, and fewer research opportunities compared to CS or ECE. Other: That was the best course I was getting. I am trying to change course. Initially, events were good. The fest was boring, tbh. Regarding campus crowd, you will find many people of different types. Just choose the correct peer group. Campus surroundings (air is polluted). Scholarship is only for those with income less than 5 Lacs. Extracurricular activities are only for CV. If you are not good, you won't be selected.

Ltd., Hero MotoCorp Limited, Honda R&D, Tata Motors, Larsen & Toubro Limited, Bharat Petroleum Limited, etc.

Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is always on and offers high-speed data nonstop. New labs are well-maintained. Classrooms are also clean, and every room has AC, light, a projector, etc. Medical facilities are free of cost. Mess food is average. Many hostels have night canteens, and they offer tasty food. Sports complexes are well-maintained and spacious for students to play in.

Faculty: Teachers are very knowledgeable in their respective domains. Some can teach very nicely, while others are not. It makes students industry-ready. Max's semesters were hectic and very demanding. As time passed, we were able to manage. The pass percentage is 30%.

Placements: 35% of students are placed in this course. Student who got highest package in my course is 25 LPA, and lowest package is 10 LPA. Top recruiting companies are ISRO, DRDO, and BARC, while in private sector, companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Accenture, Nvidia, and Infosys. Almost 55% of students got internships at these companies. Top roles offered are research and development scientist, medical physicist, data scientist, and various engineering roles in fields like electronics.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure of college is well planned and developed. Whole campus is covered with Wi-Fi, and classrooms have smart boards. Labs are updated with latest technology physics instruments. Food available in mess and canteen is freshly prepared and delivered in well-packed packaging. Campus also has medical facilities and also organises an annual sports meet.

Faculty: Teachers are also disciplined and hardworking because they are regular in their lectures and always teach with sincerity. Teaching quality is excellence. Curriculum is relevant and makes students ready for industrial works. Semester exams are average, and passing criteria are to score 40% marks in each subject.

Other: I have gone for this course because I want to develop strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and mathematical proficiency. Best thing about this course is that it encourages you to explore unexplored things. Campus organises fests and extracurricular activities. Campus also provides scholarships based on students' marks.

Infrastructure: IIT Delhi's hostel infrastructure is in dire need of an upgrade. Many of the hostels are over 60 years old, and have seen minimal renovation or upgrades in recent years. A modern update would greatly improve the overall living experience. The IITD hospital also has its limitations, with a shortage of well-qualified doctors and outdated facilities. This can make it challenging for students to receive quality medical care on campus. On a positive note, the library stands out as a valuable resource, offering a well-organized, quiet space for study, with a wide range of academic resources and materials that effectively support the academic needs of students.

Faculty: IIT Delhi's Textile Engineering department has highly qualified, knowledgeable, and committed professors. They make complex topics understandable and help students develop technical skills and analytical thinking. However, the administration, including certain deans and the academic body, can be difficult to deal with.
