In 2024, a total of 17,740 seats, including Female Supernumerary seats, will be available across 23 IITs. With 48,248 candidates qualifying for IIT admissions through JEE Advanced 2024, the number of aspirants exceeds the total IIT seats by nearly threefold. Notably, there's an increase of 355 seats compared to last year, with this year's total reaching 17,740, while last year's stood at 17,385.

JoSAA 2024
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) has been set up by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) to manage and regulate joint seat allocation for admissions to over 100 institutes, including IITs, NITs, IITs, and other government technical Institutes (Other-GFTIs). Admissions to all these institutes will be done through a single platform. The idea behind introducing a single counselling platform is to reduce thousands of seats going vacant in engineering colleges across the country. The Joint seat allocation process is introduced to make the whole process of admissions smoother, more effective, efficient, transparent, and a lot faster.

No, your candidature will be rejected as you need to have minimum of 75% in class 12 to be eligible for admisison to the IITs, NIT, IIITs and GFTIs via the JoSAA counselling. Even if you pass JEE Advanced and JEE Main, of you do not have 75% minimum marks in class 12 boards you will no get admission

The JEE Advanced JoSAA counselling dates will be made available on the official website of JoSAA - josaa.nic.in. Usually, the JoSAA counselling registration starts a day after the JEE Advanced result is anniunced. Complete schedule will be available on the official website.

No, one does not have to apply separately at IIT Madras website after JoSAA counselling. This is because the institute follows a common admission process for its BTech course just like the other IITs. It is possible for you to secure a seat in an NIT (National Institute of Technology), although it may not guarantee your preferred branch or institute. If your percentile is above 96, your chances of getting into a respectable NIT increases, but you may need to compromise on your branch selection. However, if you aim for a decent NIT with a preferred branch in the core field, you would need to score above 97.5%. On the other hand, if your goal is to get admission to a top college with the CSE (Computer Science and Engineering) branch, your score would need to be higher than 99.4%.
