NTA Exams 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is a government agency responsible for major national-level exams conducted annually for admissions and fellowships to higher educational institutions in India. The NTA exam calendar 2026 is being released for all exams scheduled for the academic session 2026-27 at nta.ac.in. This calendar is also being updated below on this page.

What is NTA? A Brief Overview of the National Testing Agency
The National Testing Agency (NTA) was created by the Ministry of Education (MoE). The NTA is an independent and self-sustaining organisation that focuses on conducting national-level exams. All major exams like NEET and JEE Mains that were conducted by CBSE were transferred under NTA. Eventually, all the major national-level exams like CMAT, NCHM JEE, UGC NET, etc, were brought under the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Key Details about NTA:
Year of approval: National Testing Agency (NTA) was approved by the Union Cabinet in November 2017
Changes by NTA: For the first time, NTA started to conduct JEE Mains twice a year. Multiple exam shifts were introduced. This also led to the introduction of normalisation methods and standardisation of scores. NTA also introduced a network of test practice centres for students in rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam.
Transformation from offline to CBT mode: UGC NET also transformed to computer-based test mode from offline pen and paper-based exam.
Introduction of highly secured IT software and encryption: The NTA exams have been claimed to be highly secure to ensure delivery of tests just in time. Also, NTA brought the usage of highly secured IT software and encryption to ensure no leakages and other malpractices around the exams.
Integration of psychometricians: All tests are set scientifically, with the test items developed jointly by the subject matter experts and psychometricians.

The current NTA chairman is Prof. (Retd.) Pradeep Kumar Joshi. He is also a former chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
NTA was established with the objective conducting transparent, efficient and high standard tests to assess candidates' competency for admission purposes. To imporve the quality, efficiency, effectiveness, equity, and security of all the national level tests, MOE has established NTA. It is one single central angency under the government of India that is responsible for quality testing and assessment of the candidates transitioning from secondary education to higher education.

NTA JEE Main 2026 Exam: Eligibility, Exam Pattern, and Syllabus
NTA JEE Mains is a national-level engineering entrance exam for students going from school to higher education. The exam is a pathway to get admission to premier colleges like the IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Many private colleges also provide admission based on JEE Main ranks.
NTA holds the JEE Main exam twice a year - in January and then in April. Candidates are eligible to apply for both sessions or any one. For those who appear in both sessions, their final result is based on the best score out of both sessions.
NTA JEE Main 2026 Exam Eligibility
- 10+2 passed/appearing candidates can apply.
- There is no age limit for appearing in the exam
- No minimum marks required in Class 12 to appear in JEE Mains.
- Candidates can appear in JEE Mains 2026 if they have passed class 12 in 2024, 2025 or 2026.

NTA JEE Main 2026 Exam Syllabus
NTA releases the JEE Main 2026 syllabus on the official website of JEE Main. There are 3 papers in JEE Main and the syllabus for all three papers are made available by the NTA.
- The paper 1 is for BE/Btech candidates with syllabus having subjects - Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
- The paper 2a is for BArch candidates with syllabus having subjects - Maths, General Aptitude, and Drawing

NTA UGC NET 2026 Exam: Eligibility, Exam Pattern, and Syllabus
NTA conducts the UGC NET twice a year - in June and in December. UGC NET is held to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ as well as ‘Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor’ in Indian Universities and Colleges. The NTA UGC NET 2025 exam will be held for a total of 85 subjects. The syllabus differs for all 85 subjects and is prescribed by the University Grants Commission itself. Until June 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the NET exam on behalf of UGC. Now UGC NET exam is being conducted by the NTA.
