Study the theory portion from Resnick-Halliday-Walker/ Sears-Zemansky, if you have used them for your IIT preparation. Else, any standard textbook for Plus Two would suffice. The application period for PUBDET 2024 has already concluded in March 2024, but the eligibility criteria are still valuable information for future reference. Here's the academic eligibility for PUBDET 2024:

Class 12th or Equivalent: Candidates must have completed their Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board. This applies to boards like CBSE, West Bengal Board, or any other recognised board in India.

Completion Year: The qualifying Class 12 exam must have been passed not before 2020.

Minimum Subjects: You should have passed the Class 12 exam with at least five recognised subjects.

English Language: English must be one of the five recognised subjects passed in Class 12.

Excluding Environmental Science: The aggregate for eligibility is calculated based on the best four recognised subjects, excluding Environmental Science.

PUBDET and PUMDET are both conducted for admissions to Presidency University. However, through PUBDET, the courses offered are of the undergraduate level (BA and BSc) and through PUMDET, the courses offered are of the postgraduate level (MA and MSc).

WBJEEB conducts PUBDET once a year for admissions to undergraduate programmes (BA and BSc) offered at Presidency University. Every year, the university gives admissions to nearly 550 students for different BA and BSc programmes. 

Candidates interested to appear in PUBDET exam are required to check the eligibility criteria for the exam mentioned below. Check out the academic qualification below:

• Candidates should have cleared higher secondary examination (XII) that is conducted by CBSE, West Bengal or equivalent exam.
• The candidate must pass XII with at least five recognised subjects, including English language and excluding Environmental Science. The aggregate is to be calculated in the best four recognised subjects.

You must first register and fill the application form to appear for the PUBDET exam. You must visit the official website of WBJEEB to fill and apply for PUBDET. In the application form, you are required to fill important information like personal details (name, parent's name, category, contact information, etc.) and academic details (mark sheets, transfer certificate, etc.). PUBDET is conducted offline (pen and paper based test). Aspirants must note that even though the exam is conducted offline, the applications for the exam are only available online on the exam body's official website.

Yes. PUBDET is conducted by the Presidency University in order to offer candidates admission in Humanities and Science streams at the undergraduate level.  PUBDET comprises separate entrance exams that are conducted to offer admission to aspirants in different Science and humanities programmes offered at Presidency University at the undergraduate level. While appearing for PUBDET exam, candidates can apply for a maximum of any two subjects. 

Yes. The Presidency University offers a course in Performing Arts (BPA). However, to get admission in the college, candidates have to appear for PUBDET. Given below are the courses offered through PUBDET exam:

The exam body releases the PUBDET admit card atleast a week before the exam. It is suggested that applicants keep checking the WBJEEB website every now and then for regular updates. PUBDET 2025 admit card was released on June 13, 2025 for the exam scheduled on June 21 and 22, 2025. 

Candidates need to follow the below given steps to know how to download the PUBDET admit card: 

• Visit the WBJEEB exam website to avail of the admit card.
• Select the ‘PUBDET’ link and click on it. 
• Candidates will be directed to the PUBDET page and in bold, the candidates will have to log in.
• Candidates will then have to fill in the following to download their respective admit cards: Application Form, Application Number, Password, Security Pin.
• Candidates can now see the PUBDET admit card.
• Download the admit card and take a print-out of it.

The candidate has to carry their admit card, passport size photograph and any government authorised ID such as Aadhar Card/Driving License/Voter's ID. The allocation of the PUBDET exam centres was based on the choices gave by the candidate during the online form fill up. However, the centre mentioned was final and no changes were made. No request for change of allocated centre was entertained under normal circumstances.

Yes, reserved category candidates get some relaxation on the minimum marks required in the class 12 final exams. The minimum aggregate scores vary from subject to subject. 

To apply for an MA in English, aspirants must first appear for PUBDET. For this particular course, they must have studied Arts or Science with English as one of the subjects. They should have also scored 65% marks in English-A (WBHS) or 75% in English.

In order to apply for an undergraduate Geography programme through PUBDET candidates must have studied Arts/ Science in their high school with at least three of the following subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, History, Geography, and Geology.

To apply for PUBDET for a BA in Bengali course, candidates must have studied Bengali as a subject in their high school. They must also have scored at least 60% marks in Bengali in their class 12 final exams. 

The exam body provides an application correction window after the last date to fill the application form during which applicants can make changes to their PUBDET application forms. The application correction window is only open for a few days. Once it has passed, you cannot change your exam centre choices. Dates for the application correction window will be announced by the exam body on their official website after the application form is available. You can keep tabs on it. 

The application fee for PUBDET is INR 500 (excluding bank charges for internet services). Applicants must pay this fee while filling the application form. It can be paid using Net Banking/ Debit Card/ Credit Card or by cash using Allahabad Bank e-challan.

• The photograph must be recently taken which can match the candidate’s physical features.
• Low-quality images (taken by a mobile phone) will be rejected.
• The background must be of white colour.
• The face of the candidate should occupy at least 50 percent of the entire space while looking at the camera.
• Candidates are advised to get enough print outs of the photographs as the pictures will be needed at the exam centre, during counselling admission and registration with the university.

No, making corrections when the application correction window is open does not cost any extra fee. 

Yes, if you have enrolled in  Govt./Govt. Aided or Govt Sponsored  College in West Bengal, which is under Government of WB you have the option of writing in English as well as Bengali.

As per the exam's notification, each candidate can take the test for a maximum of 3 papers. For the first (or one) paper they apply for, an application fee of INR 500 must be paid. For each extra paper, an extra amount of INR 250 must be paid. 

The PUBDET English Literature syllabus for B.A. is based on the 11th and 12th class curriculum of various boards. Here's a possible breakdown:

• Poetry and Drama: Analysis of poems and plays from different eras, focusing on themes, literary devices, and authorial intent.
• Prose: Reading and interpretation of various prose forms like essays, short stories, and novels. Understanding narrative techniques, character development, and social commentary.
• Language Skills: Developing strong vocabulary, grammar foundation, and writing skills through essays, summaries, and creative writing exercises.

The syllabus also includes specific prescribed texts or offer a wider range of choices across genres and periods.

According to the PUBDET information bulletin published by the exam body, the structure followed for the Philosophy, Sociology and Performing Arts paper is as follows. 

There will be a total of 50 MCQs, each question carrying 2 marks.

• Click on ‘PUBDET 2025 Rank Card’ tab, which will be available on the website.
• Fill up the details in order to avail the rank card. Candidates will have to enter their application number, password and date of birth.
• Click on the sign in button.
• Candidate can view their respective PUBDET rank cards. 
• Candidates are suggested to download and take a print-out of their ranks cards as it will be required during the counselling process. 

No, the PUBDET result is not published in the form of a merit list. The exam body announces the result in the form of Rank Cards for each examinee separately. They must log on to the official website to download their rank cards. These rank cards must also be produced during the counselling session.

If two candidates happen to get the same score in PUBDET, a tie-breaking system will be applied. The candidate who has lesser incorrect answers (keep in mind that incorrect answers are marked -1/2 while correct answers are awarded 2 marks) will be ranked higher. In case, the number of incorrect answers for both the candidates is the same, they will be awarded the same rank and will be eligible for counselling and admissions.

Ranks cards with scores are issued to all candidates, who will appear in PUBDET. But all may not be awarded a rank and hence may not be eligible for counseling, for which a cut off rank and/or a cut off score will be decided by the Board. Result will be published in the form of Rank Card, which contains all relevant ranks, total score, and component scores in respective papers. Candidates can view and download their rank card by logging in with their password. The Board never publishes a rank list to ensure confidentiality to each individual candidate. 

The documents needed for PUBDET counselling are as follows:

In case the candidate faces any problem during admission or thereafter due to any mistake committed by him/her in providing such personal information during online application, the Board is not able to render any help e.g., issuing any letter of correction etc. The candidate must take necessary actions at his/her end with the University, where he/she takes admission.

The confirmation page, admit card, rank card etc., of PUBDET contains some personal information as given by the candidate during online application. As such, the Board is in no way responsible for any mistake in it due to incorrect entry given by the candidate. Confirmation page and admit card cannot be downloaded after the examination is over. Rank card and OMR images cannot be downloaded after the counselling is over. Candidates must preserve such documents safely.

Yes. Candidates can choose the exam centre the nearest to them. However, candidates are advised that once the application form is submitted, the candidate can not change their exam centre so be careful.The allocation of the PUBDET exam centres was based on the choices gave by the candidate during the online form fill up. However, the centre mentioned will be final and no changes will be made. No request for change of allocated centre will be entertained under normal circumstances.

If any candidate needs a duplicate copy of Admit Card, Rank Card etc., it can be provided by the Board, but only till the end of counselling or 60 days after the date of declaration of result, whichever is later. To get a duplicate copy, the candidate must apply to the Board and pay a processing fee of INR 500 for each document by a bank draft in the name of “West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board” payable in Kolkata.

Candidates are required to keep the following information in mind while appearing for PUBDET counselling round:

• Candidate’s credentials will be verified at the counselling centre.
• Aspirants need to appear in-person at their counselling centre.
• Credentials of candidates eligible for counselling and admission will be verified on stipulated dates, which will notified to the candidates.
• The Presidency University quota will be applicable for candidates who have qualified their BA/BSc (honors) degree through regukar examination of the university as per merit.
• Admission through non-PU quota will be based on the rank secured in PUBDET 2024 entrance exam.
