No Subject Compulsion in CLAT Qualification

There is no subject compulsion in the CLAT Qualification. It implies that students from any stream or subject combination can apply for the CLAT exam. There's no separate entrance requirement beyond your board marks. You don't need a specific subject combination. You just need to clear the minimum percentage, which we'll cover next.

CLAT 2027 Qualification for PG Exam

As the name suggests, the qualification for the CLAT PG is completely different because it requires a law degree only to take admission in the CLAT PG exam. The CLAT academic qualification does not differentiate between 5 years LLB or 3 year LLB. It means that any Law graduate from a 5-year integrated course or any 3-year regular course can apply for the CLAT PG exam.

The final-year students can also fill the CLAT registration form.

Category-wise Minimum Marks

Minimum marks aren't the same for every category. Here's how the numbers actually break down:

  • Candidates belonging to General/ OBC/ PwD/ NRI/ PIO/ OCI category should possess an LLB or equivalent degree with a minimum 50 per cent aggregate
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ ST category should possess an LLB or equivalent degree with a minimum of 45 per cent aggregate
  • Candidates appearing for the final year examination of their qualifying degree are also eligible to apply for CLAT.

These percentages apply to your qualifying exam that is Class 12 for UG, and LLB for PG. Falling short by even one mark can disqualify your application. So double-check your marksheet before you apply.

CLAT 2027 Nationality Requirements

CLAT isn't restricted to Indian citizens alone. Indian nationals can apply, obviously. So can NRIs, OCIs, and PIOs. Each participating NLU may still have its own specific documentation process for foreign candidates, so check individually.

Common Qualification Mistakes to Avoid in CLAT 2027 Registration

A few errors show up again and again during CLAT application season. Here's what to watch for:

- Applying for CLAT PG with only a 3-year LLB in progress, without checking final-year eligibility rules first.

- Assuming your Class 12 stream matters for CLAT UG. It doesn't.

- Missing the category-wise marks difference and assuming one flat percentage applies to everyone.

- Forgetting that provisional eligibility for final-year students still requires proof later.

- Not checking individual NLU requirements, since some have slightly different documentation asks beyond the Consortium's base rules.

No, a domicile certificate is not mandatory for all candidates. It is only required if you intend to claim a reservation/ seat under state quota (offered by specific NLUs). Students can skip this document if they are applying solely under the All-India open category.
