  • Change in Career Plans: Some students might decide to pursue a different career path or choose another entrance exam for higher education.
  • Admission to Other Institutes: Candidates might secure admission in other prestigious institutes or universities, making the CLAT exam redundant for them.

The Consortium of National Law Universities does not provide a direct option to cancel the CLAT registration once the application fee is paid. However, candidates can follow these steps and considerations to manage their situation effectively:

  • Contact the CLAT Helpdesk: The first step towards cancelling the CLAT registration is to contact the CLAT helpdesk. Candidates can reach out via email or phone to explain their situation and request cancellation guidance. Here are the contact details:
    Email:  clat@consortiumofnlus.ac.in
When contacting the helpdesk, be polite and provide all necessary details such as your registration number, name, and reason for cancellation.
  • Write a Formal Request: If the helpdesk advises you to send a formal request, draft a clear and concise email or letter requesting the cancellation of your CLAT registration. Include the following details:

Full name
Registration number
Email address used for registration
Reason for cancellation
Request for confirmation of cancellation

Here is a sample email format:
Subject: Request for Cancellation of CLAT 2026 Registration

  • Refund Policy
The refund policy for CLAT registration fees is typically stringent, with no provisions for refund once the fee is paid. However, it’s advisable to inquire about any exceptional cases or partial refunds while contacting the helpdesk.
  • Withdrawal of Application
If cancellation isn’t possible, consider withdrawing your application by not appearing for the exam. This is the simplest way to opt-out without any formal cancellation process.
  • Keep Records
Maintain copies of all correspondence with the CLAT helpdesk and any official communications regarding your cancellation request. This documentation can be useful in case of any disputes or future references.

CLAT 2026 Registration: Important points to remember

Canceling the CLAT registration form 2026 requires careful consideration and timely action. While the Consortium of National Law Universities does not offer a straightforward cancellation process, candidates can manage their situation by contacting the helpdesk, sending formal requests, and understanding the refund policies. Always keep records of all communications and be aware of deadlines to avoid any last-minute issues. Read below to know important points to remember for cancelling CLAT Registration:

  • Deadline for Cancellation: Be aware of the timelines and deadlines for any possible cancellation or withdrawal requests. Typically, the earlier you request, the better the chances of accommodating your request.
  • Application Fee Non-Refundable: Understand that the CLAT application fee 2026 is generally non-refundable. Make your decision to apply carefully to avoid financial losses.
  • Impact on Future Applications: Cancelling or withdrawing from the CLAT exam does not impact your eligibility for future attempts. Candidates can reapply for CLAT in subsequent years if they decide to pursue a career in law later.
  • Alternatives to CLAT: If you decide not to pursue CLAT, consider other law entrance exams or alternative career paths that align with your interests and goals. Some other prominent law entrance exams in India include:

AILET:  All India Law Entrance Test conducted by NLU Delhi.
SLAT: Symbiosis Law Admission Test for Symbiosis International University.

Making an informed decision about appearing for CLAT or cancelling the registration is crucial for your career and financial planning. Whether due to a change in career plans, admission to other institutes, personal reasons, financial constraints, or lack of preparation, ensure that you follow the appropriate steps to manage your CLAT registration effectively.

Remember, cancelling your CLAT registration does not close the doors to a legal career forever. You can always reapply in the future or explore alternative pathways to achieve your career aspirations in law.

The last date to submit the application form is October 31, 2025. It must be noted that the consortium will open the application correction window after that. Sometimes the consortium do extend the last date for registration but it is better to fill the form way before and why to wait.

Yes, you can fill out the CLAT Application Form in phases. There is an option to save in every step. However, it will be better if you fill the form in one go. For this, you should keep all the documents ready in hand. See if you fill the form in one go you don't have to worry about it.
