Admissions through NEET are categorised in two types of quota i.e., All India Quota (AIQ) and State Level Quota. All India Quota comprises 15 per cent of the overall seats and the rest of the 85 per cent are filled under state-level quota.
Before starting with the preparation of NEET, we all have one question in mind – how many marks should I score to get admission into a good government medical college or university? Most of us have a dream of getting into a government medical college. But let me tell you, my friend, it is not a cakewalk. This dream only comes true when candidates qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) with the minimum qualifying percentile. Marks required for getting into any of the top government colleges are way higher than what private medical colleges ask for.

About NEET
NEET is the sole entrance test for admission to MBBS, BDS and other medical and paramedical courses in India. The exam is organised by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The question paper is divided into three sections, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, where the Biology section is further divided into Botany and Zoology.
Total questions: 180 questions
Total marks: 720 marks
Total time: 180 minutes
(For every correct answer four marks are awarded and for an incorrect answer, one mark is deducted)
The NEET 2021 exam pattern and structure has been changed by NTA. Although the key factors like total duration, number of questions to be attempted and total marks are the same, the sectional structure and number of questions to choose from have changed. Each section is further divided into two sub-sections, Section A and Section B. Section A and Section B will carry 35 and 15 questions respectively. From Section B, candidates will have to choose 10 questions for attempting out of 15 questions. The detailed pattern and structure are given in the table below.

NEET 2021 Admission Process
All the top government medical colleges in India give admissions for MBBS based on the marks obtained by the student in the NEET examination. The process of admission in MBBS in any government medical college consists of centralised counselling. This process is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Sciences (DGHS) on behalf of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
Admissions through NEET are basically categorised in two types of quota i.e., All India Quota (AIQ) and State Level Quota. All India Quota comprises 15 per cent of the overall seats and the rest of the 85 per cent are filled under state-level quota. Candidates can avail seats under the above-mentioned quota based on their domicile certificate.
After securing a decent rank in NEET, candidates get shortlisted under 15 per cent AIQ and they register for the process of counselling. The allotment of the seats for 15 per cent AIQ seats is completed in two rounds. After two rounds of counselling, if any seats remain vacant under AIQ, they will be converted into state quota seats.
In all government medical colleges, the remaining 85 per cent of the seats are covered under the state-level quota. To claim admission under the state quota, the aspirant needs to fulfil the basic eligibility criteria and domicile qualification requirements as stated by the state counselling committee.
Some of the basic eligibility criteria are as follows:
- Candidates should have attained 17 years of age as on December 31 of the year of admission and should not exceed 25 years
- Candidates must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination by securing the minimum qualifying percentile in Physics Chemistry and Biology
- Candidates must fulfil the domicile requirements as set by the respective state admission authorities for admission
- Medical aspirants must secure the category-wise prescribed cut off in NEET

The minimum percentile required for qualifying for the Round 1 of the counselling is 50 per cent. In case if you have a problem in calculating the percentile out of your rank, here is the tip. Suppose if you score a rank of 100 out seven lakh students who appeared for the NEET examination then your percentile will be:
[(7,00,000-100)/7,00,000]X100= 99.98
