NEET 2024 Qualifying Exam Codes
The following section brings the NEET 2024 qualifying codes as stated by NTA in its information bulletin.
NEET 2024 was conducted on May 5, 2024, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM (IST). NTA conducted the exam in 571 cities across India and abroad. Around 20 lakh candidates appeared for the exam. The difficulty level of the exam was moderate to tough. NEET is a paper-pencil based test (PBT) consisting of a total of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Out of this, candidates had to attempt 180 questions. The total marks of the exam is 720.
NTA announced the NEET 2024 exam date on September 19, 2023. NEET 2024 exam was conducted on May 5. The result of NEET 2024 was declared on June 4, 2024. After the result declaration, several irregularities and anomalies were found in the result and the scoring system. Hence, NTA is reconducting NEET 2024 on June 23, 2024, for 1,563 candidates who were awarded grace marks. The result will be declared on June 30, 2024. The NEET 2024 counselling process for the 15 per cent All India Quota (AIQ) seats is likely to be conducted from July 6, 2024 onwards.
The NEET 2024 application process was conducted from February 9, 2024, to March 16, 2024. The last date of application was extended from March 9, by a week. The application and correction windows were reopened in April. While the NEET exam dates were scheduled in September and July a couple of years ago owing to the pandemic situation, it took a toll on the medical admission schedule. To bridge this gap, NTA conducted NEET in May last year. The trend is being continued for NEET 2024 as well.
Code 01
- A candidate who is appearing for the qualifying examination in 2024
- A candidate whose class 12 Board exam result is awaited
Such candidates can appear for NEET 2024 but will not be eligible for admission to any of the courses unless they pass the qualifying examination with the requisite percentage. If he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage at the time of the first round of NEET counselling, he/she will not be eligible to attend the counselling rounds.
Code 02
- A candidate who has cleared the Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to the Class 12 Board exam, after a period of 12 years of study
- The last two years of such study must comprise Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (including practical tests in these subjects) and English
Candidates who have passed Class 12 from Open School or as private candidates have to fill this code. Candidates who have studied Biology/Biotechnology as an Additional Subject at Class 11 and Class 12 also have to fill this code. However, their candidature is provisional and subject to the outcome of Special Leave Petitions/Appeals filed by the Medical Council of India.
Code 03
- A candidate who is pursuing an Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science from an Indian University/Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Biotechnology
- This Board exam or equivalent qualifying exam should include practical tests in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject
Code 04
- A candidate who is pursuing a pre-professional/pre-medical Examination in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
- He/ she must have passed either the Higher Secondary Examination/ Pre-University/ equivalent examination.
- This pre-professional/ pre-medical examination shall include practical tests in all three subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.
Code 05
- A candidate who is in the first year of a three-year degree course at a recognised University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in these subjects.
- He/ she must have passed the earlier qualifying examination (Class 12 or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology and English.
Code 06
- A candidate who has completed a BSc from a recognised Indian University
- He/ she must have passed the qualifying exam of BSc with not less than two of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology
- Such candidate must also have passed the earlier qualifying examination (Class 12) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English
Code 07
- A candidate who has appeared for any other examination (with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology) which in scope/ standard is equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board with
- This examination must include practical tests in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology. It must also include the English language.
Where to Enter NEET 2024 Qualifying Exam Code
The qualifying exam code for the NEET 2024 exam had to be entered in the NEET application form, in the section of Qualification Details. This section is divided into three sections, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 and equivalent details.
The total number of exam cities for NEET 2025 was 566. This year, the total number of NEET exam cities in India was 552. The number of NEET exam cities outside India has remained 14. The number of exam cities in India has decreased by five cities from last year, which was 557.
Yes, NTA removed five cities from the NEET 2025 exam city list in India. The total number of NEET 2025 exam cities outside India as remained the same, which is 14. Since NTA limits the state and city choice as per the present address, applicants need not think for long to select the right exam city choices. The five cities, which have been removed from the list are Surampelam (Andhra Pradesh), Deoghar (Madhya Pradesh), Basar (Arunachal Pradesh), Mamit (Mizoram) and Kiphrie (Nagaland).
Candidates will get 3 hours or 180 minutes to solve the entire question paper of NEET. They can divide the time between the NEET subjects or sections as per their convenience. There is no sectional time limit in the NEET exam pattern. According to the experts, candidates should keep around 45 minutes for each subject and 15 minutes for revision. Candidates must prepare a fool proof time management strategy while taking mock tests. They must follow different approaches and then finalise on the most convenient one.
The NEET qualifying exam code has to be entered under the Class 12 or equivalent Qualification details, under the field of Qualifying Exam. Candidates have to ensure that they enter the correct NEET qualifying exam code, otherwise their candidature may get cancelled.
NEET 2024 Eligibility Criteria
The NEET 2024 eligibility criteria changed in certain aspects, such as the schooling and core subjects of study. Candidates who have studied, or studying Biology/Biotechnology as additional subjects along with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English, will also be eligible to appear for the exam.
Moreover, till last year, candidates who passed Class 12 or equivalent from Open Schools or as private candidates were not allowed to appear for NEET, but this year, this factor has been removed by NMC. Candidates who have passed their Class 12 Board exam from Open Schools will now be eligible for NEET 2024.
Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India. Non-resident Indians (NRI), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of India Origin (PIO) and foreign nationals are also eligible to appear for NEET if they wish to pursue MBBS or any other medical courses accepting NEET scores from an institute in India.
Age Limit: Candidates must have attained the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will attain the same by December 31, 2024, or the last date of the year. Accordingly, the minimum date of birth of candidates should be December 31, 2007. There is no upper age limit for NEET.
Educational and Qualifying Marks Criteria: Candidates must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English subjects individually in the qualifying examination. The qualifying aggregate for General, General-PWD and Reserved category candidates is 50 per cent, 45 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.
