The inspections, conducted by CBSE on December 18 and 19, 2024, targeted schools in Delhi, Bengaluru (Karnataka), Patna (Bihar), Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ahmedabad (Gujarat). After reviewing the inspection reports, it was discovered that many of these schools had violated key CBSE affiliation bye-laws.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued show-cause notices to 29 schools across India for violating the CBSE affiliation bye-laws. Following a series of surprise inspections, the CBSE identified several non-compliance issues and has given the schools 30 days to provide written responses.

Surprise Inspections Uncover Violations

The inspections, conducted on December 18 and 19, 2024, targeted schools in Delhi, Bengaluru (Karnataka), Patna (Bihar), Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), and Ahmedabad (Gujarat). After reviewing the inspection reports, it was discovered that many of these schools had violated key CBSE affiliation bye-laws.

The CBSE, in its official press release, emphasized its commitment to upholding the highest standards of education. The board has asked the schools to submit their responses within 30 days.

β€œCBSE has taken serious note of these violations and has issued show-cause notices to all 29 schools involved. Each school has been provided with a copy of the respective inspection report and has been directed to submit their replies within 30 days,” the release stated.

Key Violations Identified

Several critical violations were uncovered during the inspections. These include:

  • Enrollment Irregularities: Several schools enrolled students beyond their actual attendance records, essentially endorsing β€œnon-attending” enrolments, which is a breach of CBSE guidelines.
  • Non-compliance with Academic and Infrastructural Norms: Many of the inspected schools were found to be flouting CBSE's prescribed academic and infrastructural standards. This included issues such as inadequate teaching facilities, outdated infrastructure, and poor adherence to the prescribed curriculum.

Recent Trend of Show-Cause Notices

This is not the first time CBSE has issued show-cause notices for violations. In December 2024, the board had issued notices to 34 affiliated schools for participating in sports events organized by the CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSE-WSO), despite prior warnings. Similarly, in September 2024, the board took action against 27 schools in Rajasthan and Delhi for violations of its affiliation bye-laws and regulations.

CBSE's Stance on Enforcement

CBSE reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing strict measures against any violations of its regulations. The board made it clear that it will continue to take necessary actions to ensure that educational standards are met and upheld across affiliated schools.
