To address these challenges and strengthen educational infrastructure, the state government will allocate suitable land for the new CBSE sub-regional office. The office will temporarily operate from the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya building in Agartala, according to Abhijit Samajpati, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Education Department.
CBSE Board Exam 2025: In response to growing concerns over the performance of state-run schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Tripura, the CBSE has announced the establishment of a sub-regional office in Agartala. This move comes amid public outrage over the dismal results of state-run Vidyajyoti Schools, which were restructured after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in Tripura in 2018.
The Shift to CBSE and Mixed Results
Under the BJP-led government’s initiative, 125 state-run schools were converted into Vidyajyoti Schools, and an English-medium CBSE curriculum was introduced. Previously, these schools followed the Bengali-medium curriculum under the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE). This year, while 61 percent of students from these schools passed the CBSE Class 10 exams, only 59 percent were successful in the Class 12 examinations. The results have sparked significant concern, with many questioning the sudden shift in medium of instruction and the impact on students who had previously studied in Bengali.
Government's Response: Allocation of Land for CBSE Office
To address these challenges and strengthen educational infrastructure, the state government will allocate suitable land for the new CBSE sub-regional office. The office will temporarily operate from the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya building in Agartala, according to Abhijit Samajpati, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Education Department. This move is part of an effort to streamline the operations of CBSE schools in the state and ensure better support for students and teachers.
Key Services Offered by the CBSE Sub-Regional Office
The new CBSE sub-regional office will offer a range of services to schools affiliated with the board, including:
- Admission assistance
- Correction of subject details
- Updates to student records
- Coordination with exam centers
- Mark sheet corrections
- Grievance redressal
- Teacher training facilitation
Samajpati stated that the office would also collaborate closely with state education bodies and regional educational institutions to support the smooth functioning of the examination process and promote student development. This initiative is expected to foster a stronger educational environment and improve learning opportunities for students across Tripura.
Opposition Criticism Over Results
The decision to implement the CBSE English-medium curriculum in Vidyajyoti Schools has faced strong opposition, with critics pointing to the poor examination results as evidence of the program's failure. Opposition leaders have argued that the abrupt transition from Bengali to English as the medium of instruction has left many students ill-prepared for the board exams. They have accused the government of neglecting the future of students who had spent years studying in the Bengali medium until Class 8, only to be forced to appear for exams in English.
Future Steps and Expectations
As the CBSE sub-regional office begins its operations in Agartala, it is expected to play a crucial role in addressing these concerns and improving the educational outcomes in Tripura. With better support services for schools, teachers, and students, the hope is that future batches will perform better, and the transition to the CBSE curriculum will yield more favorable results.
