IIT Delhi excelled in several QS indicators, ranking among the top 50 globally for Employer Reputation, which gauges global employers’ views on institutions producing job-ready graduates.

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has achieved a remarkable global rank of 123rd in the QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) 2026, climbing from its previous 150th position. Released on Thursday, the rankings also crown IIT Delhi as India’s leading educational institution, marking its highest-ever QS global ranking.

The QSWUR 2026 assessed over 8,400 institutions worldwide, evaluating performance across key indicators like academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, and sustainability.

Prof. Vivek Buwa, Head of the Rankings Cell and Dean of Planning at IIT Delhi, hailed the achievement, stating, “This milestone reflects the dedication of our faculty, students, over 64,000 alumni, and the Ministry of Education. These rankings guide us to refine our strengths and target further growth, positioning IIT Delhi to potentially break into the global top 100.”
IIT Delhi excelled in several QS indicators, ranking among the top 50 globally for Employer Reputation, which gauges global employers’ views on institutions producing job-ready graduates. It secured a spot in the top 90 for Citations per Faculty, reflecting the high impact of its research, and placed in the top 150 for Academic Reputation, highlighting its academic excellence. The institute also ranked among the top 175 for sustainability, underscoring its commitment to environmental and social responsibility. Nationally, IIT Delhi holds a top-two position in academic reputation, employer reputation, and sustainability.
The QSWUR 2025, released earlier, had already signaled IIT Delhi’s upward trajectory, placing it at 150 globally and among India’s top institutions. In 2025, it ranked 44th worldwide for Employer Reputation and 94th for Citations per Faculty, with strong scores in academic reputation (top 160) and sustainability (top 200). The 2026 rankings build on these gains, driven by IIT Delhi’s focus on cutting-edge research, industry collaboration, and sustainable practices.
This achievement aligns with India’s growing presence in global higher education, with 46 Indian institutions featured in the QSWUR 2026, up from 44 in 2025. IIT Delhi’s rise reinforces its role as a leader in innovation and education, contributing to India’s ambition to become a global knowledge hub.

Yes, you can get into IIT Delhi with 500 rank. As per the IIT Delhi Cutoff 2024, the last round closing ranks ranged between 116 and 6102 for the General AI category students. There are a few courses available at 500 rank including BTech in CSE and BTech in Mathematics and Computer Engineering.

The cut off rank in Round 6 for BTech in Computer Science and Engineering is 118 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Delhi - Indian Institute of Technology.
