IITGN Hosts Two-Day Science Camp

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar as part of the DST-Vigyan Jyoti Initiative, conducted a two-day Science Camp for two Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) from Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar under the Gujarat region of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) on January 8 and 9, 2024. The residential event saw participation from 91 high school and higher secondary school girls, accompanied by four teachers from JNVs.

The camp aimed to offer students a chance to surpass school boundaries, enhance their experimental, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, and motivate them to explore their curiosity and creativity in science. During the two days, students participated in different activities, such as science experiments, tours of state-of-the-art labs, interactions with distinguished faculty and scientists at IITGN, CCL-IITGN activities, yoga, sports, etc. These experiences provided them with a glimpse into the vibrant student life at IITGN.

IIT Gandhinagar Science Camp Events

On the first day, students visited Physics, Chemistry, and Biological Engineering labs at IITGN for hands-on experiments. A session with the Centre for Creative Learning added a fun element to STEM learning. In the evening, the Institute's Astronomy Club, Odyssey, conducted a planet observation and star-gazing session for the girl students.

The second day featured engaging talks by esteemed faculty and visiting scientists on diverse topics, including Cancer, Nikola Tesla, Albert Einstein, and NASA research. Students eagerly participated in the Q&A session, showing great enthusiasm for the insightful discussions.

In the second half, Prof Rajat Moona, Director of IITGN, also interacted with students about how science and technology are interlinked and how science is spread all around us. Prof Moona encouraged them to proactively participate in STEM activities to learn more about basic technologies used in our day-to-day life.
