JAM 2026 Examination was conducted in eight zones. The names of these eight zones with the list of zone-wise Examination Cities are listed on JAM 2026 exam centres (Probable Examination cities of JAM 2026). Candidates must specify their first, second and third choice of cities at the time of applying for JAM 2026. When the choice of first city is made, then the zone gets determined and the candidates can choose the second and third choice city only from the same zone.

IIT JAM 2026 examination was conducted on February 15, 2026. The exam was conducted in two sessions:
Session 1 - 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Scribes were arranged for those PwD candidates who had requested to be provided with a scribe at the time of application.
Qualification of the scribe arranged by test centre will NOT be more than the minimum eligibility criteria of JAM 2026. However, the qualification of the scribe is be matriculation (10th) or above. There are around 3000 seats in postgraduate programmes at 21 IITs for the academic year 2026-27. Admissions are based on JAM 2026 scores, subject to satisfying the ERs and MEQs and any other requirements, without any additional interview or written test.
JAM scores are used for admission to over 2000 seats for postgraduate programmes such as M.Sc. and M.A. at IISc and various NITs, IIEST Shibpur, SLIET, DIAT through Centralized Counselling for M.Sc / M.Sc. (Tech.) Admission (CCMN).
Candidates had to select the IIT JAM exam centre city while filling out the application form. They had to enter as many as two exam cities in preferred order. The final decision is made by the exam authorities.
Candidates have to follow the steps given below to select the exam city of JAM 2026:
1. Visit the JAM 2026 website.
2. In the Exam City Preference section of the JAM 2026 application form, select three cities in preferential order.
3. Complete the application process by paying the requisite application fee. The exam city preference can be changed during the application correction window.
