Q:   What if I fail in 2 subjects out of 6 in HSC Maharashtra Board?

If you fail in 2 subjects out of 6 subjects in Class 12th Maharashtra board you will not be eligible to clear the Class 12th Board exam. In Maha board, a student needs to pass in at least 5 subjects including one language subject to be considered as passed in the Class 12th Board exam. However, if you have failed in 1 or 2 subjects, you may be eligible to appear for the Maharashtra Class 12th Supplementary exams. The supplementary exam is a second chance given to students who have failed in one or two subjects in the main exam to clear their papers and obtain their passing Certificate. The compartment exam is usually held in July/August, and students have to fill a separate compartment exam application form and pay the exam fee. Over the past four years, the pass percentage of Science stream students has generally shown improvement. In 2022, it was 98.30%. However, it dipped slightly in 2023 to 96.09%. In 2024, the rate rose again to 97.82%, and for this year (2025), it is recorded at 97.35%.

Maharashtra 12th Result 2025: Commerce stream pass percentage over the years

In recent years, the pass percentage for Commerce students in the Maharashtra HSC exams has varied. In 2022, it stood at 91.71%, but in 2023 it slightly dropped to 90.42%. The results improved in 2024 with a pass rate of 92.18%. This year, in 2025, Commerce students have achieved a higher success rate, with a pass percentage of 92.68%.

Maharashtra HSC Result 2025: Girls outperform Boys by over 5%

In the 2025 results, regular female students across Maharashtra have a pass percentage of 94.58%, while their male counterparts recorded 89.51%. This shows that girls outperformed boys by 5.07% in this year’s HSC exams.

Maharashtra HSC (12th) Result 2025: Over 42,000 repeat candidates took the exam

A total of 42,388 repeat candidates from various streams registered for the HSC exam across the state’s nine divisional boards. Out of these, 42,024 students appeared for the exam, and 15,823 managed to pass, resulting in a pass percentage of 37.65%.

The Maharashtra HSC exam consists of mix of objective (MCQs), very short answer, short answer and long answer questions. 25 per cent questions are MCQs while remaining 75 per cent covers subjective, analytical and descriptive type questions.
