Q: How is the hostel facility at IIT Roorkee?

IIT Roorkee has 10 boy hostels, 3 girl hostels, and 6 hostels for married candidates. The campus has a new co-ed hostel, Vigyan Kunj. Hostels may accommodate Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, along with doctoral students. All the hostels have basic amenities like a cyber cafe, gym, Wi-Fi, water purifiers, common room, recreation room, mess, TV, laundry services, security and surveillance systems, etc. Students are assigned to hostels by the school administration after their freshman year. The hostels at IIT Roorkee are called Bhawans. Each Bhawan has a mess. Mess administration consists of a staff advisory, a chief advisory, and a student mess secretary. The hostel fee at IIT Roorkee ranges between INR 68,000 and INR 99,000. This annual hostel fee does not include mess charges.

GATE 2027 City allotment notification for admission to the ME/MTech and Phd will be announced on Jan 4, 2027. The exam will be held from Feb 6 to Feb 7, 2027; Feb 13 to Feb 14, 2027; and Feb 20 to Feb 21, 2027.
IIT JAM 2027 registration process for admission to the MSc course has concluded. The exam will be conducted on Feb 14, 2027.
CEED 2027 online registration for admission with regular fee will be ongoing till Nov 5, 2026. Further exam will be conducted in offline mode on Jan 17, 2027.
UCEED 2027 examination applications with regular fee for admission to the BDes courses are open till Oct 31, 2026. The UCEED 2027 exam will be held on Jan 17, 2027.

The IIT Roorkee application process is carried out in online mode. An application is completed only after the payment of the required application fee. All about IITR Electrical Engineering.

Placements: Most of the students got placed from my course. Around 80-90 percent of the students got placed. The highest package is around 1.5-3.67 crores per annum and the lowest package varies around 4-6 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Google, Microsoft, and all. After 3rd year, some got interned and some chose different pathways.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good. The hostel facilities are good, secured, and well-maintained. The mess food is not good. Each hostel room has different Wi-Fi routers, every hostel has its own canteen. If there is any medical emergency, there is also a small hospital on campus.

Faculty: Teachers are helpful, but to pass the exam you have to do self-study. Semester exams are like normal if you study atleast 2 hours a day, you can clear them easily. Courses are not properly industry-based. The faculty members try to clear all basics, so it will be easy for you further.

Other: At a rank of JEE Advanced 3,000-4,000 you get this course. If the class burden could be reduced, it would be good so we can get more time for self-study.

I will summarise by saying that our campus placements and infrastructure are very good.

Placements: Placements are good. Almost all good MNCs come here and hire students. There are many branches and all students got placed if they make some efforts in a particular domain and some basic skills are also mandatory in a student's mind to handle questions.

Infrastructure: IIT Roorkee campus is very well maintained and has a very good environment among all Indian colleges. I prefer students to study hard and get admission in this college. This college is famous for the most beautiful building which is the James Thomson Building which is of white colour and was established in 1875.

Faculty: Faculty is also very caring and helps all students with wellness sessions if anyone wants personal or group sessions. Our wellness club is very well organised so that if a person is feeling lonely or depressed they can go there and share with faculty members to solve the problems.

Overall really good absolutely dissatisfied from mess and faculty.

Placements: This time IIT Roorkee is having one of its worst placement seasons. 100 students are placed in the current placement season from mechanical branch. The highest package offered is 51LPA the lowest package offered is 10LPA and the average package offered is 21LPA. The top recruiting companies are Amazon and Oracle. The positions offered are software development management and supply chain. 50 students got internships and mostly people got off campus. The PIC cell has failed to bring the much needed core companies like Jaguar and even negotiate proper offers or request more vacancies.

Infrastructure: The course structure is very good but it still needs improvement as most of the courses are either related to out of industry knowledge or are completely backward structured. More courses like data structures or a course providing interview knowledge regarding data structures questions being asked in the interview. Classrooms have highly functional Wi-Fi AC and heaters. The library is excellent. The quality of food in the mess and canteen is the worst with a rating of 1 out of 5 stars. The medical facilities sports and games are excellent as there are experienced doctors and coaches to help us in our endeavor.

Faculty: Teachers here are no doubt extremely knowledgeable and highly qualified but they are not that helpful. Most of them do not explain the doubts properly and they also expect that no one will copy the assignments and also submit on time. The course curriculum is slightly relevant it needs to improve vastly as it fails to make the students industry ready and thus many students have to prepare online to crack interviews and even company exams. The semester exams are really difficult and the grading is relevant. There is no pass percentage.

Other: II purely got this branch due to my JEE Advanced Rank. Electrical or electronics are always my first preference but even though the mechanical branch is really good and I will say it exposes you to the world of robotics advanced printing technology and also enabled me to build an underwater vehicle. I wish my course to have more subjects evolving around computer Science or data structure and algorithms as it becomes really difficult for people who are aiming for non core jobs. Fest events campus and connectivity are excellent.

Review of IIT Roorkee - Indian Institute of Technology.

Placements: Overall, the placement percentage is around 70-80%. Placements are mostly dependent on the market conditions and demands. Teachers are assuming that by the end of 2030, the percentage may decrease by 5%. The average package offered ranges from 17-19 LPA. The highest package offered is 25 LPA. The major recruiters are Tata, ISRO, Google, Microsoft, Honda, L&T, Bajaj, etc. Roles like consulting, financing, etc., are offered here.

Infrastructure: The hostel has facilities like Wi-Fi, reading rooms, a recreation hall, etc. The old hostel is average, but the new one is top-notch. The educational buildings are very nice and well-spaced. Classrooms are suitable for all seasons. The canteen and mess food have improved quite a lot after the lockdown period.

Faculty: All my teachers have graduated from either IITs or from reputed institutions outside India. Many of them are active research paper workers. The course curriculum of all branches is highly recommended and relevant. Semester exams are a bit hard. If students have the basic and core knowledge of the subject, then they can perform well.

Best night campus life with good locations nearby.

Placements: It has not been disclosed by the college yet. Last year, around 62% of students got placed, with the highest package of 82 LPA and an average package of 16.67 LPA in Civil Engineering. The top recruiting companies are GAIL, LT, and BHEL. Many students also get placed in the IT sector.

Infrastructure: Classrooms are good, and you also have a good campus life throughout. The library is also very well-equipped. There is a 24-hour canteen. The mess food is not that great. The sports facilities are very good. It also offers a unique sport that is growing as a boat club sport.

Faculty: Professors here are all very well educated. But if you talk about teaching, it is not up to the mark. The practicals are really helpful, with hands-on practical applications. The semester exams are tough, but grading is relatively easy. So, there is no need to panic about exams.

Other: I chose Civil Engineering because I love to analyze buildings all over the world. Here, we have so many fests. The major ones are Thomso and Cognizance.

A beautiful campus that anyone would love.

Placements: All the giants do come here, but it is not worth the hype. The management here is not able to call the quant giants like Optiver, so these things are disappointing, but the good thing is that more than 95 percent of CSE students got placed this year, and about 60 percent of students in PPO, and that's something really great. The top roles offered are like those of an SDE. This year, as far as I have heard, the highest package is of 1.62 crores per annum. One thing that could be done better is calling some quant giants for recruitment as well.

Infrastructure: Hostels for first year are decent but those of second, third, and fourth years are not good. The rooms are very small, and the washrooms are not very clean and are sinking too. The classrooms could have been a little better, as even some of their two and three-year ITs have better classrooms, and we do not have any synthetic race track so that's also a loophole. One more thing is that though healthy, the taste of the mess food is not good.

Faculty: Faculty, except for a few, are not up to the mark. I mean, they have the knowledge, they are well qualified, but they usually lack the ability to explain it to the students properly. Only a few professors are good at this. The course curriculum is quite relevant, and the difficulty level was also quite good, considering the fact that we are IITians.

Other: There is no need to tell why I chose CSE, I guess, because everyone knows it's hype. The fests of our college are among the best in North India. The system of scholarships could have been a little better because they ask for an ITR every year, whereas other colleges just rely on the income certificate. The seniors and the other people are also very good, and the perks of my college are the beautiful green environment close to the Himalayas, so you can go on trips at the end of every semester.

Tuition Fee Waiver: All UG students of General OR General (EWS) OR OBC category are eligible for a tuition fee waiver. The library was established in 1848. The library is spread across an 85,000 sq. ft. area. It is a four-storeyed building. IIT Roorkee library has a rich collection of more than 3,20,000 documents, CD-ROMs, Online databases, audio-video material, standards, specifications, theses, reports etc. It also has access to more than 8000 electronic journals.

I am from Humanities background, but have cleared UCEED 2027 Entrance Exam. Can I apply for IIT Roorkee B.Des programme?

No, you cannot apply for B.Des programme at IIT Roorkee even if you have cleared the UCEED Entrance Exam because Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects in 10+2. But you can apply for B.Des programme at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Indore.

Does IIT Roorkee offer PhD in Design course through CEED?

IIT Roorkee doesn't offer PhD in Design course through CEED. It only offers a MDes in Industrial Design. Admission to the M.Des programme will be based on CEED merit rank. The candidate will have to apply directly to the participating college once results are declared.
