Work on enhancing speed and accuracy is the mantra to crack any competitive exam like BITSAT. Analyse the mistakes and improve the score with each mock tests to crack the exam.
Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) is one of the prestigious institutes in India. It has campuses in Pilani, Goa & Hyderabad. Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) is conducted by BITS for admission to Integrated First Degree Programmes of BITS Pilani Campuses. In this article, we will discuss this particular exam, its eligibility and preparation tips to score high in BITSAT.
BITSAT could be considered as the second most important entrance exam for engineering after JEE. Both the exams are similar, however, JEE includes lengthy and difficult questions whereas BITSAT includes short and conceptual type questions. So, BITSAT could be considered easier as compared to JEE Main.

Why this exam is important?
This exam is important as after scoring well in BITSAT, the student could get admission in BITS campuses which are of IIT and NIT level. So, this could be considered as an opportunity for those students who are aiming for premier institutes.
Eligibility
The most important criteria for appearing the BITSAT exam is that the student must have passed their Class 12 with an aggregate of 75% in Physics, Chemistry and Maths (PCM). Therefore, this exam could not be attempted by all the students as in JEE. This gives some idea about the competition and the quality students in the BITSAT exam.
Exam Brief and Preparation Tips
This is a computer-based online exam. The total duration of the exam is three hours. The total number of questions in this exam is 150 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Logical Reasoning. Three marks are given for every correct answer and one mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.
During preparation, identify the strongest, average and weakest subjects. To score high in BITSAT, focus on preparing strong and high weightage topics first.
Time is crucial in every competitive exam, hence, the students should allot equal time to prepare for each subject. In my opinion, one should give more time to topics that they find easy and have good command over the same.
Another good thing about this exam is that it provides 12 bonus questions to those students who complete their paper and submit it before the given time. These questions carry high marks as well. Therefore, try to finish and submit your paper at least 10 to 15 minutes before the exam so that you could solve these bonus questions in the remaining time to boost the score. Here is the approximate time that one should allot to each subject.
| Subject |
Time |
|---|---|
| Physics |
45 to 50 minutes |
| Chemistry |
35 to 40 minutes |
| Mathematics |
45 to 50 minutes |
| English |
10 to 12 minutes |
| Logical Reasoning |
10 to 13 minutes |
Revision is the most important part of the preparation process. Hence, every student should go for a detailed and effective revision for every subject. Make notes of important concepts like formulae during preparation as this would help in quickly revising the important concepts before the exam.
Try to give at least ten mock tests before the scheduled exam. This would help in analysing the level of preparation for the exam and would also give time to work on the mistakes so that such mistakes could be avoided in future.
