IIT cutoffs are the opening and closing ranks required for admissions to 23 IITs in India. JoSAA will release IIT cut off for courses offered through JEE Advanced. Check out the previous year admission cut off for various IITs here.

IIT cutoffs are the opening and closing ranks required for admissions to 23 IITs in India. These category wise cutoffs are released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) for admissions to various programmes offered by IITs including BTech, BS, BArch, Dual Degree (BTech, MTech, BS, MS) and 5-year Integrated Masters (MTech, MSc, Dual Degree).

Engineering aspirants interested in admissions to the above programmes are required to meet the minimum IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) cut off for that year. In this article, you will read about the following:

Factors determining IIT Cut off for JEE Advanced

Given below are the factors that determine IIT cutoffs for admissions to courses offered through JEE Advanced:

  • Number of aspirants appearing for the exam
  • Performance of candidates in JEE Advanced exam
  • The difficulty level of the exam
  • Total number of seats available

IIT Cut off for BTech courses

JoSAA declares IIT cut off i.e. the category and course wise opening and closing ranks for 100 institutes participating in the joint counselling process. These include 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 23 IIITs and 23 Other-GFTIs. Aspirants meeting the JoSAA cutoffs are required to participate in the counselling process for admissions to these institutes.

IIT Admission Process

Admission to IITs is a three stage process:

Stage 1: The first stage is to qualify JEE Main. Top 2.45 lakh students who clear JEE Main will be eligible for JEE Advanced.

Stage 2: After meeting the minimum JEE Main cutoff, candidates will be required to appear for JEE Advanced. Admissions will be based on the rank acquired in JEE Advanced.

Stage 3: After JEE Advanced results are declared, students need to appear for JoSAA online counselling.

IIT Jammu accepts the JEE Advanced entrance exam for BTech admission. For the students belonging to the General AI quota, the cutoff ranks ranged between 5988 and 18156 for BTech admission across multiple specialisations. For the category-wise cutoff range, refer to the table below:

For IIT Tirupati, the JEE Advanced last round closing ranks ranged between 5034 and 16548 for BTech admission in the General category under the AI quota. Likewise, the cutoff range varies across different categories and rounds. For the last round, the category-wise range is given below:
