JEE Main 2026 January Session Topper Interview: Kabeer Chhillar

Check the JEE Mains topper interview by Kabeer Chhillar below.

Q1. Tell us about your early life and what inspired you to prepare for JEE.

Kabeer: My father is an engineer and my mother is a teacher. From a young age, my father used to discuss physics and mathematics with me. That slowly built my interest in these subjects.

Q2. Why did you choose Kota and ALLEN for preparation?

Kabeer: I chose Kota because of its strong academic environment. When I was in Class 10, I saw Ved Lahoti, a student of Allen, secure Rank 1, and that's when I decided to study here. I started believing that with the right guidance and effort, I could also aim high. When I saw top ranks coming from there, I felt the teaching must be very good. At ALLEN, the faculty members are very experienced. Their content is well-structured and tested over the years. The classroom environment was competitive in a positive way. Everyone wanted to do well, and that pushed me to give my best.

Q3. How was the study environment in Kota?

Kabeer: Kota feels different. You see students studying everywhere. It motivates you automatically. I also attended events where seniors’ JEE Advanced results were celebrated. That gave me confidence that I was in the right place.

Q4. What was your daily study routine?

Kabeer: I did not follow fixed study hours. I focused on completing homework and revising mistakes from tests. I avoided the backlog at all costs. I believe quality matters more than quantity. If I felt tired, I took a short nap for an hour and came back fresh.

In the morning, I usually studied Chemistry, especially Inorganic Chemistry, because the mind is fresh and memorisation becomes easier. I preferred reading theory in the morning and solving questions at night. I also changed my routine sometimes to avoid boredom.

Q5. How important are mock tests?

Kabeer: Mock tests are extremely important. They help you understand your level. If you score low, it motivates you to work harder. They also improve your exam temperament and focus. I always analysed my mistakes carefully after every test.

Q6. What are your subject-wise preparation tips?

Kabeer: For physics do both easy and tough questions together. Easy questions build concepts, while tough ones improve thinking ability. In chemistry, do not leave it for the end. Practice regularly and revise the NCERTs thoroughly. For JEE Main, every line of NCERT is important. I re-read it many times before the exam. Write down points that you tend to forget. Focus on maths from the beginning. Practice a wide variety of questions. Maths is more about solving and practising than just reading theory.

Q7. How was your JEE Main exam day experience?

Kabeer: In the morning, I was calm and revised Chemistry notes. Suddenly, my glasses broke. My mother helped fix them. At the centre, I realised I had forgotten my photograph, so she had to go back and bring it. Though I reached early, the entry started late. The biggest surprise was that the paper order was Maths-Chemistry-Physics instead of the usual order I practised. I decided to follow the given order to avoid confusion.

Q8. How should students manage stress?

Kabeer: Make good friends. Do not stay isolated, especially if you are away from home. Friends help you relax and reduce stress. It is important to take breaks, talk, and even play sports. I enjoy playing football and badminton. Constant study without relaxation can lead to burnout.

Q9. Did you participate in other exams apart from JEE?

Kabeer: Yes, in Class 10, I appeared for IOQM and RMO. I also took part in a few other Olympiads. These helped improve my mathematical thinking.

Q10. What are your future plans?

Kabeer: I want to study Computer Science at IIT Bombay. In the long term, my father encourages me to aim for MIT. I may prepare for SAT in the future. Along with studies, I definitely want to continue playing football.

Q11. What’s your one tip to all the future aspirants?

Kabeer: Stay consistent. Focus on concepts. Practice regularly. Attempt mock tests seriously. Build exam temperament. And most importantly, stay calm and believe in yourself. Many students study very hard but are unable to perform well in the exam hall. Exam giving skills are as important as Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. You must stay calm, manage time properly, and handle pressure. Regular practice of mock tests helps build this skill.
