WBJEE 2026 Domicile Requirements: West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board offers WBJEE admissions to the students through two quotas – Home State and All India. Students who are applying for admission through the Home State quota will be required to meet the WBJEE 2026 domicile requirements that have been prescribed by the authorities. Since WBJEE is a state-level engineering entrance examination, the majority of the seats are filled with the Home State quota. What is WBJEE?
West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination, or commonly known as WBJEE is the state-level engineering entrance examination that is conducted annually to select eligible candidates for admissions into the BTech courses offered by the participating Government and Self-Financing colleges of the state. While most of the seats are offered to those students who have a valid WBJEE score, 10% of the approved seats in the Self-Financing colleges are available for JEE Main candidates.
Students have to check the official WBJEE eligibility criteria to know if they eligible or not for the admission process. All students have to be of Indian nationality and should atleast 17 years old in the admission year. In the 12th standard qualifying exam, the students should have scored minimum 45% (40% for reserved category) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. They should have also individually passed in these subjects. At least 30 marks should have been scored in English.
After the seats are allotted, the students will have to pay the seat acceptance fee of INR 5000 online to download their allotment letter. Next, they will have to report to their respective college to for document verification and tuition fee payment.
WBJEE 2026 Domicile Requirements: Which seats are available for domicile candidates?
- Any seat (including General category seats) in any Govt. aided Engineering/Technology colleges.
- Any seat (including General category seats) in BTech (Dairy Technology) in West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences.
- 90% of the General Category seats in Jadavpur University.
- Any reserved category seat in the participating institutes.
Who qualifies as a WBJEE 2026 domicile candidate?
Students need to meet the below-mentioned criteria to be eligible as a West Bengal domicile candidate:
- The candidates should have been residing in West Bengal continuously for at least 10 years, as of December 31, 2025. OR
- The parents of the candidates should be a permanent resident of West Bengal with a permanent residential address within the state.
WBJEE Domicile Requirements 2026: Proforma and Competent Authorities
During the WBJEE counselling process, the domicile students will have to submit their certificate obtained in proforma, as per the category of their eligibility.

For Proforma a1 and b, the candidates can opt for any one of the following authorities.
- District Magistrate – Additional District Magistrate, Deputy Magistrate, Deputy Collector, Sub-Divisional Officer, Block Development Officer.
- Superintendent of Police – Additional Superintendent of Police, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police.
- Commissioner – Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police Commissioner.
- Judicial Magistrate of any rank or position in the concerned district, Metropolitan locality, or Hon’ble High Court of Calcutta or Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
- Corporation Area Commissioner – Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner
- Assistant Secretary or above in the Secretariat to the Government of West Bengal (including GTA) or Central Government.
- Deputy Director or above in the Directorate to the Government of West Bengal or Central Government.
- Collector of Kolkata (Stamp and Revenue) located at 11, N.S Road, Kolkata – 700001 for the inhabitants under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police Area.
Proforma a2 has to be signed by the Head of the Institution from where the candidate has passed or will appear in the 12th standard qualifying exam.
WBJEE Counselling Process
WBJEE counselling is held online for all qualified candidates. During the counselling process, the candidates will have to register, pay the fee and select their choice of colleges and courses in the order of preference. Seats are allotted as per the candidate’s rank and preferences. Once the allotment is over, the candidates have to report to their allotted institute for document submission and verification.

WBJEE cutoff will vary for the different colleges, courses and categories. Reserved category students are expected to have a lower cutoff than General students. Likewise, popular colleges and courses will have higher cutoffs due to the number of students applying for admission.
