CLAT 2027 Age Limit

Age Limit for CLAT 2027: The Consortium of National Law Universities conducts the Common Law Admission Test every year to select the candidates for the UG and PG courses offered by the participating NLUs. The Consortium released the official exam calendar on its official portal. As notified, the CLAT registration form is available online at consortiumofnlus.ac.in and the last date to fill the application form is October 31. 

The candidates are advised to clear all doubts about the CLAT qualification, age limit, nationality and other factors which are part of all the criteria given in the prospectus of NLU. Each NLU releases its own prospectus notifying the details of all the courses offered by them. The CLAT exam eligibility can be subdivided into the following factors

The candidates must ensure that they comply with each of the eligibility conditions because in case of any variance from the officially stated criteria, the CLAT registration form will be cancelled and the CLAT form fee will be forfeited.

Age Limit for CLAT Explained

There is no upper age limit for CLAT 2027. Not for UG. Not for PG either.

You can be 17, 25, or 45. If you meet the educational qualification, you can sit for CLAT. Age simply isn't a filter anymore.

This applies equally across every participating NLU. No individual university adds its own separate age condition on top of the Consortium's rule.

Why CLAT Removed Its Age Limit

CLAT didn't always work this way. Until a few years ago, an upper age cap did exist for UG applicants.

That cap faced legal challenges. Courts questioned why a law entrance exam should restrict access based purely on age. Eventually, the Consortium scrapped the limit entirely.

Since then, CLAT has stayed age-neutral. This opened doors for career-switchers and working professionals. Older aspirants, once locked out for being "too old," can now apply freely.

Is There a Minimum Age for CLAT?

Technically, no fixed minimum age exists either. But there's a practical floor, and it comes from the qualification rule, not an age rule.

You need to have passed, or be appearing for, Class 12. Most students hit that milestone around 17 or 18. So that becomes the realistic starting point.

A genuinely younger candidate who's somehow already cleared Class 12 could, in theory, apply too. This is rare in practice, but the rule doesn't stop it.

Age Limit for CLAT PG

CLAT PG follows the same no-cap approach. Since it requires an LLB degree first, most PG applicants are naturally in their early twenties or older.

But there's no rule stopping a 40-year-old lawyer from sitting for CLAT PG 2027. As long as the LLB qualification and marks criteria are met, age plays no role at all.

This makes CLAT PG genuinely welcoming to working professionals. Many candidates return to CLAT PG years after finishing their LLB, aiming for an LLM to specialise further.

Does Age Affect CLAT Rank or Cutoff?

No, age has zero weight in how your CLAT score gets calculated. Your rank depends purely on your exam performance.

That said, age can matter in one narrow, specific situation. In case of a perfect tie in marks, older candidates sometimes get preference during tie-breaking.

This isn't an age advantage in the exam itself. It only kicks in for resolving exact score ties between two or more candidates.

Always check the official CLAT notification for the year you're applying in. Rules can shift, and only the Consortium's own bulletin carries real authority.
