CLAT 2027 Legal Reasoning Syllabus: The Consortium of National Law Universities will conduct the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) to select the candidates for the Law Courses offered by the NLUs. As per the official communication, the CLAT 2027 exam date is December 6.
Legal Reasoning is one of the two largest sections in the CLAT exam syllabus. Consortium tests the power of interpretation and application of Law through passage-based questions in the legal reasoning section. As per the official portal, each question will be passage-based, followed by a series of questions which require the candidates to
- Identify and infer the rules and principles set out in the passage;
- Apply such rules and principles to various fact situations; and
- Understand how changes to the rules or principles may alter their application to various fact situations
The demand stated in the syllabus will flow through the questions in the CLAT paper. The candidates will be required to apply their passage-based inference to the questions to arrive at an answer.
It has the highest weightage in the CLAT paper and, along with Current Affairs and General Knowledge, it forms 50 per cent of the CLAT exam.
The CLAT legal reasoning syllabus covers topics like

- Constitutional Laws
- Law of Torts
- Law of Contracts
Above are the names of Laws which a candidate can read to know the basics of the legal system of the nation, but we suggest not to give much time to the above except the Constitution of India (till Article 100 and State Executive). We suggest that candidates should also read the Supreme Court decisions and the latest legislation passed and under consideration by the Parliament of India.

Consortium expects that the candidates must know the Indian Political Structure and the basic doctrine of Separation of Powers.
The Consortium will ask passage-based questions and each passage will be around 450 words. The Legal Reasoning section in CLAT UG 2027 consists of passage-based questions followed by 4–5 MCQs per passage.

The CLAT syllabus has five subjects: English, legal reasoning, logical reasoning, maths and general knowledge with current affairs. The section-wise overview of the CLAT Legal Reasoning syllabus is given below. The CLAT 2027 UG syllabus includes five subjects:
- English Language,
- Current Affairs & GK,
- Legal Reasoning,

- Quantitative Techniques.
The exam will consist of 120 MCQs. Candidates will get 2 hours to complete the exam.
CLAT is not directly based on the NCERT curriculum, but NCERT books act as a strong foundational resource for Quantitative Techniques and basic static GK. Candidates appearing for board exams can prepare for CLAT side by side.
While it is not impossible, it is a really challenging task. To score well, you must start preparing for CLAT at least six months before. It is very important to score well if you are looking forward to getting into good NLU. For top 10 NLU, you at least need to score between 100 to 105 as per past trends.
The CLAT Syllabus is published by the Consortium. The syllabus has been announced. Candidates who are preparing for the exam must note that there are no changes made in the syllabus so far. Yes, the Consortium removed two Test Cities from the CLAT 2027. The removed test cities are Vellore and Tiruvarur. CLAT 2027 exam date is December 6.

Candidates are required to pay the CLAT Registration/Form fee as per their category. The Consortium prescribed the category-wise form fee. Without submitting the CLAT form fee, the registration will not be completed.

No, candidates who fulfill OP Jindal Global University BBA LLB (hons) eligibility criteria cannot apply with a CLAT-UG score. This institute only accepts admission based on LNAT-UK exam. No other entrance exams are accepted during admissions to this course.
