CLAT Marks 45: Expected Rank, Top NLUs & Best Non-NLUs options

CLAT Marks 45: With 45 marks in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), the options for law colleges are limited. Students must check the best colleges with 45 marks in CLAT and make their preference accordingly. The 45 marks in CLAT give an All India Rank of around 15,000. Securing a seat in the top National Law Universities (NLUs) is highly challenging for general category students at this rank. However, students having category or state domicile quotas still have chances in newer or lower-tier NLUs with 45 marks in CLAT Exam.

Students must note that CLAT 45 marks are not sufficient for admission in NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, WBJNUS and other top colleges, especially for unreserved category students. However, there are some chances in NLU Assam, Jabalpur & Shimla in case seats remain vacant. For the OBC & EWS categories, there are not many chances of success. While talking about SC/ST candidates, though it is difficult, there are high chances of admission in the low-tier institutes.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Is CLAT exam difficult?
A:

Yes, CLAT is considered one of the most difficult law entrance exams. Candidates must note that the CLAT Exam is conducted for admission to NLUs across the country except NLU Delhi. Hence, the level of difficulty of CLAT Exam is tough.

Q:   Are the CLAT 2027 Test Centre Revised?
A:

Yes, the Consortium removed two Test Cities from the CLAT 2027.  The removed test cities are Vellore and Tiruvarur. CLAT 2027 exam date is December 6.

Q:   What is a bad rank in CLAT?
A:

A bad rank in CLAT is relative and depends on factors like your category, the NLUs you target, and overall competition. For general category candidates, ranks above 15,000 to 20,000 are typically considered weak, reducing chances of admission into top or even mid-tier National Law Universities. For reserved categories, the threshold might be higher, but still, a rank significantly above the cutoff range may be viewed unfavorably. Ultimately, a "bad rank" hampers your chances of securing a coveted seat and may force you to consider alternative law schools or reattempt the exam in subsequent years. Improving your score remains essential.

Q:   How to prepare GK for CLAT?
A:

The candidates are advised to prepare the Current Affairs and GK sections simultaneously. The CLAT aspirants are suggested to link the Current Events with their Static GK background.

To prepare current affairs, the candidates can read one current affairs monthly magazine. For GK part, Any General Knowledge Manual will suffice.

Newspapers are one of the most important resources that provide the background of the current events and link them with their legal framework.

No, a domicile certificate is not mandatory for all candidates. It is only required if you intend to claim a reservation/ seat under state quota (offered by specific NLUs). Students can skip this document if they are applying solely under the All-India open category.

CLAT does not give a fixed number for grammar. The exam is fully passage-based. Grammar is tested inside English Language, which carries around 20% weightage.
