In CAT 2018, 11 candidates scored perfect 100. All these 11 toppers are from engineering and technical backgrounds.
CAT 2018 result was announced today by IIM Calcutta. This year, 11 candidates scored perfect score of 100 percentile with 22-year old Rounak Gupta declared as the topper. Among other ten 100 percentilers are Patrick D’Souza and Amit Bikram. All the 11 toppers are male and from engineering or technology background. The number of 100 percentilers is less than last year. In CAT 2017, twenty candidates scored 100 percentile in the CAT exam.
This year, 21 candidates obtained an overall 99.99 percentile in CAT 2018, out of which 19 are from engineering or technology background. Delhi-based twins Anubhav Garg and Abhishek Garg have both secured 99.99 percentile.

100 percentiler Rounak Majumdar, a mechanical engineer from IIT Kanpur, said that key to scoring 100 percentile is mock tests. He started CAT preparation in August 2018 and attempted about 30-35 mocks before the exams. Take a look at Rounak Majumdar’s CAT scores below:

Patrick D’Souza from Bombay scored 100 percentile for record fifth time. CAT 2018 was his third consecutive 100 percent performance. Patrick runs an MBA coaching institute in Mumbai and is a popular MBA exam mentor. He has also topped MAH CET several times. Speaking to Shiksha, he said, “CAT is as much a Psychology based exam as it is an Ability based exam. Students are usually not prepared psychologically hence they are not able to perform in the exam. This year too, a lot of students could not perform well in Quant because they were psychologically not prepared for a tough Quant paper. Had they just relaxed and solved a few questions which they knew, they would have done better.”

Mihir Kapse from Thane scored 99.97 percentile in CAT 2018 despite his medical condition. Mihir, an engineer, is suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He started preparing for CAT 2018 in May 2018 by solving mock test series available online. This helped him find out that he was in a decent space with regard to CAT exam, and only needed some help in revising concepts and learning tricks and shortcuts to solve questions in least time. Saumya Gupta, from IIT Bombay, who attempted CAT for the second time this year, is targetting IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta with an overall percentile of 99.99.
Vineet Bajaj from Ludhiana, score 99.53 percentile overall says it was his second CAT attempt. A Robotic Process Automation Developer in Gurgaon, Vineet is targeting IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Indore, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode. Apart from the IIMs, Vineet is also targeting FMS-Delhi, IIT Bombay, SPJIMR-Mumbai, NITIE and MDI- Gurgaon.

Niranjan Prasad from Udupi, a final-year BTech (dual degree) student at IIM Madras scored 100 percentile. Talking to media, he said “I never expected that I would score hundred percentile. However, I have a lot of decisions to make before I take my next step as I have received some job offers. " When asked about his exam strategy, Niranjan said, first I tried to answer all easy questions and tackled the tougher ones.
Twins Abhishek and Anubhav Garg from Delhi score almost identical CAT percentile. Abhishek scored 99.97 percentile while Anubhav scored 99.99 percentile. Both wish to join IIM Ahmedabad and are preparing hard for Interview round.
The CAT 2018 result was declared on January 5, 2019 at 10 am on the official website and the window to download the CAT scorecard was activated soon after.
