Commonly asked questions
Q:   What is a good score in NEET mock test?
A:

The total marks of NEET is 720. Hence, a score above 500 is considered to be good. Ensuring a high score in all the sections will ensure an overall high score. Although there is no sectional cutoff or qualifying marks for NEET a balanced performance would be better than a skewed performance. The mentors or experts evaluating the NEET mock tests often set a high difficulty level question paper to help them prepare for a tough test. Hence, students should not be demotivated if their score is low. They must improve their preparation and be prepared and give their best shot to get a high score in NEET 2024.

Q:   Will marks be deducted for unanswered questions in NEET?
A:

No, marks are not deducted for unanswered questions in NEET. However, the NTA applies negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer in the NEET UG examination.

Q:   Is it necessary to pass in individual sections of NEET?
A:

There will be no sectional qualifying criterion for NEET 2025. NTA releases overall qualifying marks or cutoff marks for each category. The overall marks will be considered while preparing the rank list for NEET. But to ensure a good score, candidates must ensure a high number of attempts with full accuracy. A skewed performance might hamper the overall marks obtained in NEET.

Q:   When should I start taking mock tests for NEET exam?
A:

NEET mock test should be taken after the basic preparation is over and the entire syllabus has been covered. Taking mock tests after NEET 2026 preparation will help students gauge their preparation level and also guide them on which sections or topics need extra emphasis. There is another pattern of taking mock tests, after completing each subject or chapter. This would help students understand their hold on each subject or section. Generally, students start taking full-fledged NEET mock tests or NEET prep questions around three to four months before the exam, once the complete preparation is over.

Q:   What is the correct way of answering the NEET question paper?
A:
Candidates will be provided with OMR sheets. They will have to shade the correct answer option corresponding to each question uniformly with a ballpoint pen which would be provided to them inside the exam hall. They should fill only one answer option circle, otherwise, the response will be considered as wrong and would result in negative marking. They will have to do the rough work on the NEET question paper, in the space provided. While answering the NEET question paper on the OMR sheet, candidates must be careful that they select the correct question number and fill up the correct answer option. There are cases where candidates solve the question and deduce the correct option, but make a mistake while filling the OMR sheet by not checking the question number or the answer option carefully. Such mistakes can cause a negative marking of one mark.
Q:   What is the exam pattern of NEET?
A:

NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is a paper-and-pencil-based test (PBT) of three hours or 180 minutes duration. There will be a total of 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), all of which will be compulsory to attempt. The syllabus of the exam consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects. The Biology subject is segregated between Zoology and Botany. On the other hand, the Chemistry subject is segregated into Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry. Unlike last year, the subjects will not be divided into two sections.

According to the marking scheme, each correct question carries 4 marks, and there is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions. The following table brings the structure of the NEET exam.

SectionsNumber of QuestionsTotal Marks
Physics Section 45180
Chemistry Section 45180
Botany Section45180
Zoology Section45180
Q:   What is the ideal time and method to take NEET mock tests?
A:

Candidates must ensure that they take the NEET mock test in a proctored manner within a simulated environment. Hence, ideally students should take mock test in the exam timing, from 2 PM to 5 PM, without any break. This would help them get adjusted to the exam taking environment. Moreover, the test should be taken without any break. It must also be ensured that they take the test in a quite environment either alone or with a group of fellow NEET aspirants. Creating a simulated test-taking experience is important. While a number of students take the NEET mock tests at coaching institutes, some prefer to take it at their home. Irrespective of the location, the above factors must be followed to get the best out of the NEET mock test.

Q:   Does NTA release NEET answer keys and question papers together?
A:

No, the National Testing Agency (NTA) does not release NEET answer keys and question papers together. While releasing the NEET provisional result, NTA releases candidates' OMR sheets. The final NEET answer key is released in the form of a single PDF document, carrying the keys for all sets of the NEET question papers. The hardcopy of the NEET question papers are given by NTA on the day of the exam. Being a paper-pencil based test, candidates are allowed to carry the question papers outside the exam hall. In general, NTA releases the NEET question papers of previous years on its official website few months after the exam is conducted. NTA has released the NEET 2023 question papers of English and Hindi languages. However, the NEET 2022 question papers are not available on the official website yet. Q:   How should I analyse my NEET mock tests?
A:

NEET mock tests must be analysed by the mentors of experts after the tests where they would point out the mistakes and suggest rectifications. They would also help in improving a faster and more effective way to solve a particular question. The analysis will help students identify their strong and weak areas and based on this, a better and improved preparation strategy would be suggested to them by the experts. Abiding the feedback based on the NEET mock test analysis will help improve their performance. At the last month before the test, there is not much scope left for the preparation. Hence, at the last few days before the exam, after the analysis of NEET mock test, aspirants should focus on finalising the test-taking strategy.

Q:   How many Sets are there in the NEET question paper?
A:

There are generally four Sets of NEET question papers, which are further segregated into six parts. However, in NEET 2025, there were four sets of the NEET question paper, which were named as 45, 46, 47, and 48, and these were not further divided into six subsets, which was followed till the previous year. The multiple Sets and codes in the NEET question papers ensure that there is no malpractice in the conduct of the exam. The names of the Sets and codes of the regional NEET question papers are different from the English ones. While distributing the question papers of NEET invigilators had to ensure that they did not give the same set of question papers to two consecutive candidates. Once candidates are given the NEET question paper by invigilators, they need to check whether the question paper and test booklet, or answer sheet, is of the same code. In case of a mismatch, they need to bring the matter to the invigilator's notice. In case they submit the NEET test booklet with a different code from that of the NEET question paper, their exam will stand cancelled.

Q:   Who sets the NEET question paper?
A:

NTA is the authority which creates the question paper of NEET. The questions are sent in by different professors, and NTA selects the questions for the examination. No single person is responsible for designing the question paper. Generally, the NEET question papers are set by an expert committee or panel of subject experts who later review the answer key challenges. Candidates may find questions from previous years' NEET question papers as well. This is why experts suggest solving previous years' question papers for NEET preparation.

Q:   Was the NEET 2025 exam pattern changed?
A:

Yes, the NEET 2025 exam pattern was changed. NTA announced the change in the exam pattern on January 25, 2025, to enable candidates prepare accordingly. The optional questions were removed. Instead of 200 questions, there were 180 questions. The total duration of NEET 2025 was reduced from 200 minutes to 180 minutes or three hours now.

Q:   My medium of paper is Hindi. It means all questions will come in Hindi language?
A:

According to NEET pattern, the question paper for the candidates who have chosen Hindi as the medium will be bilingual. The second language of the question paper will be English. Q:   Will there be negative marking in NEET?
A:

The NEET exam carries negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. Candidates should mark their answers carefully in the exam to avoid the penalty.
