Flipkart and IIT Delhi Collaborate to Enhance Personalized Recommendations

To enhance online shopping experience, Flipkart has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-D). The collaboration, marked by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), aims to delve deep into user personas to refine personalized recommendations.
Under the MoU, Flipkart pledges research grants and invaluable market insights to FITT, facilitating the generation of finely-tailored user segments based on intricate parameters like shopping behavior, demographics, and social interactions. Leveraging cutting-edge techniques such as Graph Neural Networks (GNN), the alliance seeks to construct a comprehensive user activity graph, offering insights into various personas associated with each user.
Mayur Datar, Chief Data Scientist at Flipkart, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing the brand's commitment to enhancing customer experiences through data-driven solutions. Datar highlighted the potential of persona-based recommendations to simplify the online shopping journey for millions of users, thus reaffirming Flipkart's dedication to innovation.
The collaboration extends beyond research, encompassing a spectrum of initiatives including seminars, conference grants, and joint research projects. Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, hailed the partnership as a pivotal step towards advancing e-commerce technologies and catering to diverse customer needs.
Prof. Sayan Ranu from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi underscored the importance of translating cutting-edge research into tangible products. He emphasized the collaborative effort's potential to not only fortify product recommendations but also to pioneer machine learning models capable of handling real-world data on a massive scale.
