IIT Bombay’s Class of 1998 has pledged INR 57 crore to support the institute’s growth and development. Check details here

IIT Bombay Alumni from 1998 Pledge Record INR 57 Crore to Alma Mater

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay’s Class of 1998 came together at their 25-year reunion in December 2023 not just to celebrate, but to give back meaningfully. In a landmark gesture, the batch pledged INR 57 crore to support strategic initiatives at their alma mater. After months of collaboration with the Institute, this commitment has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), paving the way for impactful investments in student and faculty development, advanced research, and campus infrastructure.

Student Wellness Centre

A cornerstone of this commitment is the IITB Student Flourishing Hub, an innovative initiative within IIT Bombay’s Student Wellness Centre. Building on the Institute’s ongoing efforts to promote student well-being, the Hub aims to enhance essential skills such as emotional resilience, self-management, and leadership. By fostering a culture of holistic development, it will empower students to navigate personal and professional challenges and thrive in diverse career paths be it in startups, corporates, academia, government, entrepreneurship, or the social impact sector.

Beyond the Student Flourishing Hub, the contribution will advance faculty excellence through the Young Faculty Fellowship, designed to help IIT Bombay attract and retain exceptional academic talent in the early stages of their careers. It will also support the Retired Faculty Wellness Fund, honouring and assisting the faculty members who have played a pivotal role in shaping generations of students.

“We are thrilled that alumni and IIT Bombay leadership are collaborating to create the IITB Flourishing Hub, building on the Institute’s ecosystem where students don’t just survive but truly thrive—academically, socially and emotionally. This initiative will help students lead meaningful, fulfilling lives while they are at IITB and as they step into the world,” said representatives from the Class of 1998.

“These initiatives reflect a deep understanding of what sustains an institution like IIT Bombay—not just infrastructure and research, but the people who bring it to life,” said Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Dean, Alumni and Corporate Relations.

The Class of 1998’s contribution will further bolster IIT Bombay’s ambitious student hostel initiative, Project Evergreen, expand the Financial Aid programme to ensure accessibility for students from diverse backgrounds and drive innovation by enhancing Makerspaces and Thematic Labs, particularly in Robotics, to accelerate technological advancements on campus.
