IIT Bombay Celebrates Alumni Day 2024; Class of ’99 Pledges INR 21.2 Crores to Legacy Project

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) celebrated its annual Alumni Day, unveiling the 4th edition of its annual fundraising campaign, ‘GO-IIT Bombay,’ for 2024-25. This initiative seeks to unite and inspire its diverse alumni community, encouraging contributions of all sizes to support transformative causes. Through the power of collective giving, IIT Bombay aims to accelerate its journey of excellence and innovation, welcoming every alumnus to play a pivotal role in shaping the Institute’s future.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Ravindra Gudi, Dean of Alumni and Corporate Relations, IIT Bombay. This was followed by an address from Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay, in the presence of Prof. Milind Atrey, Deputy Director (Academics, Research, and Translation), and Prof. K. V. K. Rao, Deputy Director (Finance, Infrastructure, and Administration). In his address, Prof. Kedare said, “Alumni are a big asset for IIT Bombay. They are not only bringing in resources, but also expertise as well as industry connect”.
Class of ’99 Pledges INR 21.2 Crores to Legacy Project
The Silver Jubilee Batch (Class of 1999) has pledged INR 21.2 crores towards its Legacy Project. These are initiated by batches celebrating their Silver Jubilee anniversary to contribute meaningfully to the Institute and its community, creating a lasting impact and commemorating their reunion. The funds raised by the Class of 1999 will support critical academic initiatives, enhance IIT Bombay's research ecosystem, and drive the Institute's ambitious 2030 vision of becoming one of the world's top 50 universities.
Distinguished Service Award at IIT Bombay
This year, the Distinguished Service Award, established in 1999, was conferred upon Rajindra Harcharan Singh (B.Tech., 1988, Mechanical Engineering), Sandeep Asthana (B.Tech., 1990, Chemical Engineering), and Sudhir Jayram Nikam (B.Tech., 1993, Chemical Engineering). These accomplished alumni have excelled in their respective fields while making substantial and lasting contributions to the growth and development of the Institute. The award includes a certificate, a memento, and an uttaria.
Chapter Service Awards at IIT Bombay
The Chapter Service Awards, introduced during the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, honor alumni for their consistent contributions to their Chapters and the Institute. This year’s recipients include Rajesh Soy (Seattle, USA), Ranjan Ojha (Chicago, USA), Shweta Bhandari and Sagar Shah (Greater New York, USA), Sita Mahalakshmi Durvasula (Hyderabad, India), and Sunay Wagle (Pune, India).
A total of 78 international offers were accepted during IIT Bombay placements 2024. Earlier, the number of international offers accepted during placements 2023 and 2022 were 65 and 66 respectively. Earlier, the highest international package offered during IIT Bombay placements 2023 and 2022 stood at INR 367 LPA and INR 210 LPA, respectively.
IIT Bombay honoured the Class of 1963, its second graduating batch, for their unwavering support and guidance during the Alumni Day celebrations. Representing the batch, Dr. Dhirendranath N. Buragohain, former Dean of Planning (1984-87) and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering (1988-91) at IIT Bombay shared memories of his time on campus.
