IIT Delhi and CRIS Join Hands for a Smarter, Sustainable Railway System

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi through its Corporate Relations Office has announced a landmark partnership with the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration seeks to enhance railway infrastructure, safety, and operational efficiency across India by utilizing IIT Delhi’s strengths in research and technology. This partnership is expected to make Indian Railways a safer, more efficient, and technologically advanced organization.

Under this MoU, IIT Delhi researchers will undertake R&D projects to improve security, safety, scheduling, intermodal connectivity, and revenue optimization for Indian Railways. Faculty from Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Management Studies will collaborate, bringing interdisciplinary expertise to tackle critical challenges.

This MoU highlights IIT Delhi’s commitment to advancing national infrastructure through collaborative research and innovation. By uniting academia and industry, IIT Delhi and CRIS are setting a new standard for research-driven partnerships that foster sustainable growth in India’s transportation sector.

Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, said, "This partnership with CRIS is a major step towards elevating India's railway infrastructure. By combining groundbreaking research with practical application, we aim to address some of the most pressing challenges in Indian Railways. Our commitment lies in fostering an environment of innovation that yields real-world solutions."

GVL Satya Kumar, Managing Director at CRIS, stated, "The collaboration with IIT Delhi aligns with CRIS’s mission to incorporate advanced technologies for Indian Railways. With the research expertise of IIT Delhi, we are optimistic that these projects will bring considerable advancements in railway operations and enhance passenger experience."
