The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee are collaborating to launch initiatives in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat, as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, within the vibrant framework of the 'Make in India' campaign.

The signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) symbolises the beginning of the establishment of the Center of Excellence (CoE) on Automotive and Allied Research and Technology Innovations (AARTI) along with the establishment of an Industry Accelerator at IIT Roorkee in collaboration with International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT).

This collaboration seeks to drive advancements in automotive technology and related research fields, creating a supportive ecosystem for innovators, startups, and industries, while enhancing skill development. The initiative was highlighted by the attendance of Uttarakhand's Chief Minister, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, who committed to fully supporting and cultivating this partnership, aiming to steer Uttarakhand towards technological innovation and economic growth.

Minister of Heavy Industries, Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey remarked, "As IIT Roorkee and the Ministry of Heavy Industries come together in this momentous occasion, we embark on a journey of innovation and progress," remarked Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, witnessing this historic event. He added, "We pledge our full support to facilitate and nurture this partnership. Together, we envision propelling Uttarakhand towards technological excellence and economic prosperity, laying the foundation for a brighter future for our state and the nation."

This pioneering initiative showcases IIT Roorkee's robust research strengths, positioning it as a vital contributor to enhancing India's global competitiveness in the automotive sector. Furthermore, the establishment of an Industry Accelerator, in conjunction with the Center of Excellence (CoE), will foster an ecosystem conducive to technological indigenization and startup expansion, aligning with the 'Make in India' vision.

IIT Roorkee and the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) will collaborate closely, with IIT Roorkee leading as the Principal Investigating Organization (PIO) and ICAT as the Co-PIO, to seamlessly blend academic and industrial strengths for impactful results. Guided by IIT Roorkee, meticulous due diligence in the onboarding process will ensure transparency and accountability. As a leading testing and R&D entity under the National Automotive Board (NAB) and the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, ICAT contributes significant expertise and capabilities.

Expressing his gratitude, Prof. K. K. Pant, Director IIT Roorkee, said, "As we embark on this transformative initiative, we envision the Center of Excellence at IIT Roorkee as a beacon of innovation, fostering collaboration between academia and industry.
