IIT Roorkee to Host Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2024

The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024 will culminate in its Grand Finale at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee from December 11 to 15, 2024. In its 7th edition, SIH 2024 continues to reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making India self-reliant and globally competitive through youth empowerment and innovation. On December 11, 2024, at 4:30 PM, the Prime Minister will interact with young innovators at the Grand Finale via video conferencing and address the gathering. Over 1,300 student teams will participate in this landmark event.

With more than 86,000 teams registered, 49,000 advancing to the nationals, and 10,800 finalists, SIH 2024 sets a new standard for innovation. The hackathon tackles over 250 real-world challenges across sectors such as Smart Vehicles, Agritech, Robotics, Disaster Management, Heritage, and Space Technology, fueling Indiaโ€™s technological leadership and sustainable growth. By bridging academia, industry, and government, SIH empowers participants to create scalable solutions with the potential for real-world impact.

With a legacy of 177 years, IIT Roorkee is a leader in technological excellence and societal transformation. As a top Indian institution, it aligns with initiatives like the Smart India Hackathon and NEP 2020, fostering innovation through programs like the TMI-102 course and its Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC). IIT Roorkee, as the Nodal Centre for Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024, is facilitating participation in groundbreaking challenges from leading organizations. The National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) has introduced three advanced problem statements, focusing on satellite image analysis, road extraction, and AI/ML-based anomaly detection. The Government of Himachal Pradesh has contributed a challenge on drone-based systems for apple orchard management, while Godrejโ€™s challenge targets sustainability in home appliances. These challenges span sectors like technology, sustainability, and agriculture, highlighting SIH 2024's role in driving innovation for national growth.
