IIT JAM 2026 Scorecard
IIT Bombay has released the JAM scorecard online. Candidates can download the scorecard and know their AIR, marks obtained and category-wise cutoff marks. How IIT JAM 2026 score is Calculated?
IIT JAM score evaluation is based on many components associated with exam structure and marking scheme:
Exam Structure: IIT JAM exam has 60 questions accounting for a total of 100 marks.
Section A: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQs)
Section C: Numerical Answer Type questions. It is divided into 3 sections, as follows:
Marking Scheme:
Section A (MCQs): has both 1-mark and 2-mark questions. Section A has negative marking; if a 1-mark question is answered incorrectly, the student loses 1/3 of a mark; if 2-mark question is answered incorrectly, the student loses 2/3 of a mark.
Section B (MSQs): each question is worth 2 marks and no negative marking. Full marks will only be awarded when all of the correct options are selected, and none of the wrong options are selected.
Section C (NATs): has both 1-mark and 2-mark questions; however, Section C does not have negative marking.

The final score of a student is the total score by combining the marks from all parts of the section. 2.
IIT JAM Result Tie-Break
In case there is a tie between the aggregate scores of two candidates in a test paper the candidate with a higher ratio of positive marks than negative marks will be awarded a higher rank. In case this criterion fails to break the tie & both candidates will be awarded the same rank.
On the basis of AIRs awarded to candidates, an All India merit list will be prepared. However, “the number of candidates included in all India merit list depends on the total number of seats available in each category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD) in a given subject,” informs the official website.
All qualified candidates allotted AIRs will then be eligible to apply for admission in their respective courses offered at colleges accepting IIT JAM scores.

There are around 3000 seats in postgraduate programs at 23 IITs through IIT JAM. Admission will be based on JAM score. Candidates need to fulfil eligibility requirements (ERs), minimum educational qualifications (MEQs) and any other requirements for admission.
Scribes were arranged for those PwD candidates who had requested to be provided with a scribe at the time of application.
Qualification of the scribe arranged by test centre will NOT be more than the minimum eligibility criteria of JAM 2026. However, the qualification of the scribe is be matriculation (10th) or above. If there are Y candidates who require a scribe, it will be ensured that a panel of (Y+1) scribes is available at the exam centre so that every candidate can have an alternative scribe to choose for the services.

There are around 3000 seats in postgraduate programmes at 21 IITs for the academic year 2026-27. JAM 2026 Scores will be used to admit the candidates, subject to satisfying the ERs and MEQs and any other requirements, without any additional interview or written test.
