SSC is the central recruitment agency for some Group B and all Group C and D posts under the Central Government. SSC has the status of attached office to the Ministry of Personnel, which is equivalent to the UPSC. It operated through its regional offices spread across the nation. 

The full form of SSC is Staff Selection Commission. SSC conduct various exam to fulfil the requirements raised by various Central government ministries, departments and security forces. The SSC also conduct the written examinations for the sub-inspector and havildar positions in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in collaboration with the designated CAPF for conducting the physical and medical tests. Q:   Can a B.Tech student appear for SSC CGL exam?
A: 
Yes, B.Tech students can give SSC CGL Exam. Students who have completed B.Tech course or are in the final year of engineering can appear for the SSC CGL exam. The official web portal of SSC clearly mentions the eligibility factors for CGL aspirants. Candidates who are aiming to appear for the CGL exam should take care of the following requirements or criteria. 1) SSC CGL minimum Qualification: The basic requirement for SSC CGL exam is a Bachelor’s Degree or Graduation Certificate from a recognized university. There are however certain other criteria for some particular posts such as Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer or Junior Statistical Officer. 2) Age Criteria for SSC CGL: There are different age limits for different posts and the related information can be accessed from SSCs web portal. For 2017 exam, age limit was calculated from 1st August, 2017. If the candidate doesn't fulfill the age criteria for the particular post, he or she will not be permitted to give the exam. The minimum age limit for maximum posts is 18 years. It should be noted that SSC provides age relaxations for some categories, like SC/ST candidates have 5 years of age relaxation and OBC candidates have 3 years and so on. For example: Central government Employees who have served for not less than 3 years can get 5 years of age relaxation. There are also some physical standards for some particular posts which may include candidate’s height, chest and medical reports, etc.
Q:   What is the minimum educational qualification required to apply for the SSC CGL exam?
A: 
Candidates who possess a Bachelor's degree can apply for the SSC CGL exam. The Diploma holders are not eligible to apply for the exam. The candidates who are in the last year of their graduation can apply for the exam under the 'result awaited category' but they need to acquire their graduation degree before the last date of application which is considered as the cutoff date. There is no bar of minimum percentage in the Graduation exam. Candidates with any percentage can apply for the SSC CGL exam. The Commission provides a level playing field to all the candidates.

Q:   How many candidates were selected in the SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam 2023?
A: 

81,752 candidates were selected for the SSC CGL 2023 Tier 2 exam. The exam is scheduled to be held from October 25–27, 2023. It is expected that 12,36,202 candidates (49.97%) participated in the computer-based Tier-I Examination. The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam was conducted online at the designated exam centres only. The Commission released the SSC CGL 2023 Tier 1 result on September 19. 
The Commission also released the SSC CGL 2023 Cutoff for all the posts groups and categories within them.

Posts Available Under SSC CHSL Exam

SSC CHSL exam is one of the most important exams for candidates who are Highers Secondary passed only. These candidates are appointed to the post of Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretarial Assistant (JSA), Postal and Sorting Assistant and the like. The SSC CHSL exam recruits candidates for Group C posts only. There is no Group B post in the exam because the eligibility is Higher Secondary only. Lower Division Clerk (LDC)/Junior Secretarial Assistant

Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant

These posts are restricted to the department of Posts in India. The candidates need to work as sorting assistants for postal communication. These are the front office bearers in the post offices. They help the public with registered posts, money orders, speed posts and parcels. They also work in the city General Post Office (GPO) and help the public with various tasks. Their pay level is higher than the LDCs/JSAs.

The SSC CGL cut off 2025-26 for Tier 2 was released on April 8, 2026 along with the final result for Tier 2. The Tier 2 exam was conducted on January 18-19, 2026. It was released category and post-wise cutoff PDF. It was released on the official portal at ssc.gov.in.

No. The Tier 1 marks for the SSC CGL are not used in the preparation of the final merit list. The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Tier 2 exam. However, the final selection and ranking is based on the marks obtained in the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam.
