NIFT Syllabus

The written exams comprise the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT). The GAT paper is mandatory for all courses. However, only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT.

UCEED Syllabus

Part A now has the following sections: Visualization and spatial reasoning, Practical and scientific knowledge, Observation and design sensitivity, Environment and Society, Analytical and logical reasoning, Language, and Creativity.

NID Entrance Exam Syllabus

Topics like colour terminology, optical illusion, form and function, picture analysis, literal thinking, story pictures, memory drawing, etc.

CEED Syllabus

The exam is anticipated to test visual aptitude through drawing, painting, sketching, design concepts, visual perception, and creativity. Additionally, the design communication test is expected to assess verbal and nonverbal communication, visual language, typography, information design, and user interface design.

Pearl Academy Entrance Exam Syllabus

Design Course Admission 2025: FAQs

Q. Can one study master's degree in design after doing engineering?

A. Yes, a candidate can pursue master’s degree in design after completing bachelor’s degree in any field. In order to join Design institutes candidates are required to clear the Design course entrance exams. The Design entrance exams usually test a candidate’s language skills, quantitative and reasoning aptitude along with design aptitude.

BTech or B.E. candidates are given priority during admission in Design colleges in some fields such as industrial design.

Q. Can one pursue a Diploma in Design after 10th standard?

A. Yes, Diploma in Design can be pursued by candidates after they pass 10th standard. Here are few such Design Diploma courses:

Q. Who is eligible for BTech in fashion technology?

A, Candidates who have completed class 12th with main subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or candidates who have completed diploma in any engineering branch are eligible to apply for BTech in Fashion Technology.

Suggestion: Students who have completed their 12th standard in arts, commerce or science stream can apply for Bachelors of Design course.

Q. How can one get admission in BFA?

A. Many colleges offering Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) course admit students on the basis of their 12th standard marks. Students have to register on the respective college websites in order to apply for BFA course.

Some colleges provide admission to candidates through entrance exams such as CUET, PUBDET and NSD Entrance Exam.

Q. Who are the famous alumni of NIFT?

A. Some of the notable alumni of National Institute of Fashion Technology(NIFT) are fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Indian actress and model Neha Sharma, actress Shweta Tripathi, Indian actress Medha Shankr, costume designer Sakhi Thomas and Paris based fashion designer Ramesh Nair.

Q. Is the NID DAT exam very difficult to crack?

A. NID DAT, along with NIFT and UCEED are among the most competitive national-level entrance exams in the country. The fact that there are only 425 seats for the B. Des and 347 seats for the M.Des programme makes it very competitive.

But that being said, if the candidate prepares well and with the correct strategy, then the NID DAT exam can be cracked. Among the first things the candidate needs to do is prepare a efficient study timetable, get familiar with the syllabus and pattern, and use good books as reference material.

Q. When will the NID DAT 2025 Prelims exam be conducted?

A. The National Institute of Design (NID) will conduct the DAT Prelims exam on January 5, 2025.

The B.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 1 pm; meanwhile, the M.Des exam will be held from 10 am - 12.30 am.

The DAT Prelims for the B.Des programme will be conducted in a paper-and-pencil/pen mode. The question paper may  incude both textual and visual questions. Other details like duration of the exam, marking scheme, etc. will be published in the DAT Prelims admit card.

The candidate needs to report for the exam at 8 am. Gates closing time is 9.30 am. 

The DAT Prelims exam for the M.Des programme will be conducted offline and include a mix of objective and subjective questions. The paper will have a total of 100 questions.

Q. What is the eligibility criteria for NIFT 2025?

A. The eligibility criteria may differ depending on the course opted by the candidate. For instance, candidates seeking admission to the B. Des course needs to have passed 10+2 exam from a recognised institute and should be less than 24 years as of August 1, 2025.

Relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit applies for candidates belonging to SC, ST and PwD candidates.

Q. What is NIFT lateral entry admission (NLEA) scheme?

A. NIFT Lateral Entry Admission (NLEA) provides an opportunity to candidates who have completed their Diploma in relevant or related fields of Design & Technology for direct admission to the third semester of UG programmes of NIFT. 

Eligible candidates have to appear in the NIFT 2025 entrance exam to get lateral admission. Admission under lateral entry scheme will be strictly on merit of NIFT 2025 exam, which will include written examination, studio test/ technology aptitude test, and a personal interview. 

Candidates selected through lateral entry will join the regular UG students of NIFT in their second year. 

The seat intake under this scheme will be displayed on the website prior to seat allocation.
