High Upward Pressure |
A higher number of registered applicants increases competition, driving cutoff upward. |
| Seat Availability |
Admission-Specific |
While it doesn't affect passing marks, fewer seats in top programs lead to much higher admission-based scores. |

Considering the previous 5 years trends, the qualifying marks for Civil Engineering generally fluctuates between 26 and 33 marks for General category. This variation is driven by the difficulty level of the questions and the total number of students who appeared in the exam; for example, the 2023 paper saw a dip to 26.6 marks due to tough question sets, while the 2022 cutoff peaked at 30.4 marks.
However, a notable trend is narrowing the gap between General and OBC-NCL/EWS categories, while SC/ST/PwD marks consistently remain at roughly two-thirds of General.

No, GATE is not a mandatory entrance exam for securing admissions at IIIT Bhubaneshwar. Candidates who fail to secure a GATE scorecard can still appear for the IIIT Bhubaneshwar M.Tech entrance exam which includes a written test. The syllabus of this written test is the same as the GATE.
