GATE Mechanical Engineering (ME) subject-wise weightage 2027: GATE ME syllabus is divided into four sections, including Engineering Mathematics syllabus. How many marks are needed to qualify GATE Mechanical Engineering (ME)?

The minimum GATE qualifying mark needed for GATE ME paper is 40 to 42 marks. However, to get admission to IITs, NITs, and IIITs, the GATE ME cutoff varies depending on the college and difficulty level of the question paper.

Q:   What is the highest GATE cutoff score for NIT M.Tech admission?
A: 

The highest GATE cutoff score for NIT M.Tech admission typically ranges from 800 to 850 in the first round. Some of the top NITs include NIT Surathkal, NIT Trichy, and NIT Warangal, accept admissions with GATE score 800 above for branches like EC, CS, ME, and EE.

Qualified candidates have to register at the CCMT portal to participate in the GATE counselling. The counselling process will begin in June/July.

Q:   Can we give GATE exam two times in a year?
A: 

No, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering examination takes place once a year. Every year, different IITs and IISc conduct exam on rotational basis. GATE is conducted online for three hours for 30 branch papers. 

Q:   Is there negative marking in GATE exam?
A: 

Yes, GATE has negative marking for Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) only. In GATE question paper, MCQs will be of one and two marks. Hence, the marking scheme for such questions can be checked below -

  • For one mark MCQ - 1/3rd mark will be deducted
  • For two mark MCQ - 2/3rd mark will be deducted

Yes, GATE General Aptitude is common for all papers. The general aptitude section carries 15 marks out 100 marks, comprising 10 questions in total. The section mainly tests candidates' analytical and thinking skills in the exam. Here's a breakdown of the GATE General breakdown of questions -

  • The GA section includes 5 questions of 1 mark and 
  • 5 questions of 2 marks.
