With only a few months left for JEE Main 2020, preparing the right way and focusing equally on all the three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will ensure success. Though students feel that mathematics is the toughest subject and hard to but of all the three subjects, it is the most scoring of all. Even though the prescribed syllabus for the mathematics section is vast but its similarity to class XII syllabus makes it easy to score well. Moreover, the section is completely formula and calculation based that makes it easier to prepare well. Aspirants should have a clear idea of the must-read topics and important chapters based on their weightage.
Start preparing from as early as possible. It will save the students from the last-minute panic. Moreover, the early completion of the board syllabus will provide enough time for extra practice and revision. Planning for every day will help students to manage and schedule the time to its fullest utilization. Skill management is an important aspect while preparing a few months before JEE 2018.

All the topics are equally important, though depending on the weightage, out of the 16 units, some of the units are more important than others which should be given more time, practice and importance. To make mathematics preparation easy, the following aspect will help ensure better performance. The maths section is divided into various segments depending upon the weightage, must go through and scoring-wise.
- Going through these units is a must – Few units in the section will include questions from topics like Integration, Statistics, Vector Algebra, and 3-D Geometry. With assured 2-3 questions from these topics out of which one from will be easier makes it advantageous for students to score well.
- Easy to score topics – few topics like application of derivatives, matrices and determinants and limits are high scoring ones. These are certain basic ones that are essentials to score well with 1-2 questions for sure.
- Primary and elemental topics – fundamental topics like Circles, Trigonometry and Sequence and Series are guaranteed to fetch good marks comfortably. Such topics, once thoroughly done are good to go with. Students should ensure to go through it at least once before the exams as 3-4 questions from these topics are expected.
Preparation tips for Mathematics
The final month must be wisely utilized to perfect the ability to solve problems with a deep perception of concept involved, improving the time needed to solve the given problem, identifying the weak spots and correcting them. This time should generally be made use of in consolidating one’s preparation, focusing on problem-solving and overcoming the weaker areas in preparation. If you are a serious aspirant and have been preparing for some time and covered most of the JEE syllabi, then:
- Select the best preparation books – picking the right study material to reduce the efforts and eliminate the need to go through various books for understanding maths concepts. Choosing NCERT to clear concepts and other reference books for practice will only simplify the preparation process and enhances the chances of better performance in the JEE exams.
- Practice a lot of questions daily - Attend at least three mock tests on mathematics daily to increase the speed, efficiency in problem-solving and to be well versed with the question pattern. Performance in the real exam mainly depends on how accurately the problems are solved.
- Attend the maths section wisely – the usual mistake most of the students make in arithmetic is to go for all the questions without analyzing. This approach is only true when the student is sure enough to solve them with confidence. In general, before attempting, the paper should be sorted according to the difficulty –easy, medium, and difficult. By attempting easy ones before, the student gets confidence that already some questions have been answered in a shorter time. This raises the chances of scoring higher by also avoiding the negative scores.
- Follow a revision plan
- Attempt an adequate number of Mock Tests, with the proper analysis done
- Take some Mock Tests in Online mode in case you have registered for JEE Main in Computer Based Test(CBT)
- Discuss your inadequate areas with your subject teachers and take guidance accordingly.
- Use the gaps wisely awarded between Board Exams to ensure that you continue to have the problem-solving ability gained during preparation.
- Adhere to the same schedule you had, while preparing for JEE
- Avoid grasping any new books in the final few months

With a JEE Main percentile of 90.94 and CRL rank ~1.4 Lacs (female, general category), you have realistic chances in mid-tier NITs (later rounds), state government colleges, and strong private universities in Tamil Nadu and Bangalore for ECE/EEE. Top NITs/IIITs are unlikely, but good regional option

With a JEE Main 2026 rank of 400,510 (≈ 70 percentile), admission to NITs, IIITs, or top GFTIs through JoSAA counseling is not possible.
Why?

With a JEE Main CRL rank of ~79,364 and an EWS category rank of ~11,884, you have a realistic chance of securing CSE in several mid-tier NITs, newer IIITs, and some GFTIs. Top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Allahabad) are out of reach, but options like NIT Jalandhar, NIT Hamirpur, IIIT Kota, III
