Diligence is required by each student while preparing for competitive exams like SRMJEEE. Follow a focussed approach to crack the exam with high scores.
SRMJEEE is the entrance exam conducted by the SRM Institute for admission in various BTech programmes. Understanding the exam pattern is crucial to prepare plan your preparation. During my preparation, I made a mistake of thinking that since I have prepared for JEE Main, I need not worry about SRMJEEE. Well, this approach is completely wrong. The level of questions is a bit different which includes theoretical questions and concept-based questions.
There are five sections: Physics, Chemistry, Maths, English and Aptitude.
Duration of the exam: Two hours and thirty minutes.
There are 125 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and the division is as follows:
Explore popular B.Tech colleges for you
- Physics - 35
- Mathematics - 40
- Chemistry - 35
- English - 5
- Aptitude - 10
In SRMJEEE, there is no negative marking and one mark is given for every correct answer. The type of questions asked in the English section is short passages or lines from poems or dialogues. To secure high marks in this section, make a habit of reading the Oxford Dictionary for 15 minutes every day. This would give a good grip on vocabulary. Since there is no negative marking, these 5 marks could change rank with hundreds, therefore, the students should attempt section.
The next is the aptitude section. Following are the topics:
- Number System: Properties of Numbers, Divisibility Rules, Euclid’s Algorithm, LCM and GCD, Unit Digit
- Statistics: Arithmetic Mean, Weighted Mean, Geometric Mean
- Profit and Loss: Computing Percentage of Profit or Loss and Profit/Loss Value
- Percentage: Percentage Change-Increase or Decrease
- Quadratic Equation: Nature of Roots, Relationship between Roots and Coefficients, Solutions of Quadratic Equations.
- Geometry: Similar Triangles, Lines and Angles, Circles and Quadrilaterals
- Arrangement: Ordering, Grading and Ranking, Coding and Decoding
- Direction Sense: Finding Direction, Distance or both
- Linear Equation: Solving Simultaneous Equations, Test of Consistency, Problems on Ages
- Trigonometry: Values of Trigonometric Ratios, Identities, Heights and Distances
The topics mentioned above could be covered with ease if the basic concepts are cleared. One has to be careful with calculations, as no calculator would be provided in the exam. Practice mock tests and learn all the basic formulae to avoid repeating mistakes.
First of all, every student needs to learn is time management and also maintain accuracy at the same time. Revision is the key to score well, therefore, start preparing early to get sufficient time for revision. As per my experience, continuous revision in the last week before the exam helped me to improve my score.
The next thing is managing your time. Avoid panicking during the exam as it might lead to confusion due to which one could start making mistakes. Hence, practice and cover all the subjects to score well.
Practicing mock tests and previous year’s questions thoroughly would help in understanding the pattern of the exam and the questions that are repeated over the years. The coaching institute releases the mock test so that students could get familiar with the pattern of questions asked. Even though the scores are not displayed, I would advise you to take the test seriously and meticulously practice many sample tests to gain accuracy and speed. The students should not waste time on a particular question is they are unsure and move onto the next question. This would help in saving time during the exam.
Do not mess up in the areas that are your strengths. Every student has their strong points. Identify those and practice them well. Make short notes of all the topics for quick revision. Write down all the formulae and theories and revise the same daily
The last step is the revision strategy. The best revision approach is to go through your notes and coaching material. It is important that you make presentable notes while studying the topics so that when you refer to those in the future, each and everything is clear. The coaching material usually contains a high number of questions which makes it a good source of practice. Every topic should be on the tip of your fingers. Practice the easy questions as well because one might make mistakes during exams if they are not thoroughly prepared.

Yes, SRMJEEE is easier than JEE Mains. The difficulty level of SRMJEEE is similar to class 11 and 12 board exams or a little tough than boards but is definitely lower than JEE.
