CLAT General Cut Off
The CLAT cut-off represents minimum All-India Rank (AIR) or score needed to secure admission into participating National Law Universities (NLUs). CLAT cutoff for General Category remains higher than other categories. CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) General category cutoffs vary widely by university, since each of the participating NLUs sets its own closing rank and marks. CLAT Cut Off is based on difficulty level of paper, number of applicants, seat matrix, etc. CLAT General Cut-Off rank for top 3 NLUs remains below AIR 200.
General category candidates compete for roughly 1,752 seats spread across 26 participating NLUs. Around 80,000 students appear for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) every year. Out of these, 60,000+ students are from General Category. You can guess competition level in this category. Consortium of NLUs will conduct CLAT 2027 exam on December 6, 2026. What is CLAT Cut-Off?
The CLAT cut-off is the minimum score a candidate needs to get admission into National Law Universities (NLUs). It also means minimum rank needed for a seat in an NLU or another law school that accepts CLAT. The cut-off changes with the category, such as General, OBC, SC or ST. It also changes with the NLU and with domicile reservation. It's worth noting that CLAT cutoff for general category is usually higher than cutoffs for other reserved categories. Knowing cut-off helps you set a target score and choose right NLUs. Consortium of NLUs releases CLAT cut-off for every NLU in form of allotment lists. Candidates can download PDF NLU-wise during CLAT Counselling process. The authority does not release a separate CLAT General Cutoff. A single merit list contains cutoff for every category.

Factors Affecting CLAT General Cut Off
CLAT Cutoff requirements change every year. It is true for UG as well as PG exams. Various factors affect CLAT cut off. We have provided details on factors that affect CLAT cutoff marks or ranks below.- Difficulty Level of the Exam: The cut-off tends to be lower in a tough paper and vice versa.
- Number of Candidates Appearing: More applicants means more competition. This raises the cut-off.
- Number of Seats Available: The total seats in NLUs for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs affect the cut-off. Fewer seats lead to a higher cut-off because of more competition. If seats increase, the cut-offs tend to fall.
- Performance of Candidates: If many students score high, the cut-off will rise. If the overall performance is lower, the cut-off will fall.
- Reservation Policies: Categories such as General, OBC, SC, ST and EWS have their own cut-offs. The cut-off depends on the number of reserved seats in each category.
- Domicile Quotas: Some NLUs give seats to students from their own state. These students may have a lower cut-off than out-of-state students.
- NLU Preference: Top NLUs like NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad and NUJS Kolkata have higher cut-offs because more students want them. Mid and lower-tier NLUs have lower cut-offs.

The CLAT general cutoff decides which NLU you can get. General students need around 95 marks for top 3 NLUs and 85 to 93 marks for top 10. Lower NLUs close from 74 to 84 marks. Go through past cut-offs to know applicable ranks/ marks needed for a good NLU seat.

Yes, the Consortium removed two Test Cities from the CLAT 2027. The removed test cities are Vellore and Tiruvarur. CLAT 2027 exam date is December 6.

Candidates are required to pay the CLAT Registration/Form fee as per their category. The Consortium prescribed the category-wise form fee. Without submitting the CLAT form fee, the registration will not be completed.
