One section that certainly does not go unnoticed in most of the management exams is the General Knowledge section. If you too are preparing for a management exam this year, you would certainly know the importance of preparing for the General Knowledge section.
The world is too big and there is always something or other happening around in this world. So, how do you keep an account of all the updates? If your plan is to sit and read through all the updates on a single day, then hold on, you are going all wrong in your preparation. Here, we shall discuss some mistakes students make while preparing for the GK section.

Not Reading the Newspaper Daily
Do you read the newspaper daily? If your answer is a yes, congratulations, you are on the right track, and if your reply is a no, pick up the newspaper right away before it gets too late. Reading a newspaper on a daily basis will keep you posted about everything that is happening around you. Students are recommended to read more than one newspaper so that they do not miss out on any update.
Not Watching the News Channel
The daily soaps telecasted on the television may certainly entice you, but they are just not going to help you in your exam; agree to this? One of the easiest ways to stay updated in by watching the news channels. However, watching news throughout the day might become extremely boring – select a news program that features all the breaking news of the day collectively. This will not only keep you updated, but will also give you time to watch your other favourite shows.
Not Making Notes
It’s great if you have been reading the newspaper and following news channels, but do you think you will memorise everything you read and watched? Well, that is a little doubtful; isn’t it? One of the best things to do is to make short notes of what you think is important from the perspective of an exam – you can memorize the same, later on.
Not Using the Internet
Google, YouTube and Wikipedia can become your teachers, provided you use them in the right manner. Go through various sites that focus on current activities. Also, you can like the current affairs pages on Facebook and other social networking sites. Apart from this, you can also read the e-newspapers and concentrate on current activities.
Not Reading GK Books/ Guides
GK books and guides can be excellent resources for GK preparation. These books and guides give you collective information of the latest happenings. Reading the same and memorizing it can help you attempt the GK section effortlessly.
Not Participating in Online Quizzes/ Discussion Forums
Online quizzes and discussion forums have simplified GK preparations to a great extent. Participating in online quizzes can help you evaluate yourself – this will give you a clear idea of your preparation. Also, participating in discussion forums can help you increase your general knowledge.
If you are making the above mentioned mistakes, this is the time to stop and rectify your mistakes so that you excel in management exams and get enrolled in a top MBA college.

There is no minimum qualifying marks for CAT. Anybody scoring above 0 in the exam is eligible for admission, however the B-Schools select candidates on the basis of cut offs which are 60 and above percentile.

CAT cut off is prepared by all accepting colleges individually. There is no one authorized body to do so. Even the IIMs determine their admission cut offs separately.

If we're talking about GIBS Business School Bangalore, they don't have some super high CAT cutoff. In simple words, you don't need to be in the 99+ percentile to get considered.
- They look for a decent CAT score, usually around 70–80 percentile as a safe benchmark
- Scores are important, but they also ca

Not CAT necessarily, but still, you need to take a national-level entrance exam required for MBA admissions.

Most IIMs require a CAT percentile of 90 to 99 for MBA in Business Analytics. Private colleges like Great Lakes and NMIMS accept scores between the 70th and 85th percentile.
