In order to increase your score in CAT, I would suggest asking your tutor for more than one method to solve the problem. Always make sure that you follow the method that you feel is easy for you to understand and solve the problem.
For CAT aspirants, it is important to overcome the jolt of initial failures. Bisharah Saeed’s shares his experience in analysing mistakes committed in the first attempt and choosing the right b-school for MBA.

It is common for us to be in situations where we flunk exams or are unimpressed by the grades that we receive. This is not a very big deal although many students literally waste a lot of time thinking about what has already happened and cannot be undone. Instead, they should focus on analysing what went wrong and prepare for it the next time when they appear for CAT exam. If you were left unimpressed by your grades after the CAT exam, the following things might help you as it definitely did in my case:
- Do not feel disheartened and tensed. It is just an exam. If you are keen on clearing the CAT in the first go, make sure that you start preparing well in advance. In addition, there is the option of repeating next year.
- In case, you feel that you are not in a position to attempt CAT again, there are other entrance tests such as KMAT, CMAT, MAT, etc., which can help you get into top-tier MBA colleges. The only thing you have to do is check whether the college or course you are targeting accepts these entrance tests.
- Talking about colleges, it is something that you should be very careful about while choosing. The reviews about a college that you find on the website are one thing and the reviews that you hear about the college from the alumni are something else. I would suggest going with the latter as they would be able to give you a more clear and honest opinion. This exercise will also make it easier for you to decide which college would be the best fit for you.
- In order to understand what percentile ranges are accepted by various colleges, there is a list provided on the website of T.I.M.E where they have graded the colleges according to the quality and have assigned rating AAA+, AA+, etc. The corresponding percentile ranges are also available on the website.
In order to increase your score in CAT, I would suggest asking your tutor for more than one method to solve the problem. This can be also done online as well as through other ways as sometimes the method taught in class need not be the one that you might feel is efficient or easy for you. Always make sure that you follow the method that you feel is easy for you to understand and solve the problem.

Yes, CAT exam is MCQ type, meaning there are no subjective type questions wherein you have to write a lot. In CAT every question is to be answered in one word or option. However, all questions don't have MCQ options, some are Type In The Answer (TITA) questions.
