Preparing for Group Discussion? Here are 10 topics that you must prepare for. You could also find interesting ‘for and against’ comments to excel.

 1. Is India ready for a cashless economy?

For: India is riding high on digitalization with people becoming more educated about it. They are all using credit and debit cards and online transactions from the places wherever they are instead of going to banks. Time is saved and technology has improved.

Against: India being a developing country we cannot expect everyone to use cards and online transactions. There are many people living in rural regions who are not even aware of online payments and still stand in a queue for receiving the money from their account. It will be possible but only if at least one in a family is educated. In another few decades, it might be possible. Even educated people think about online transactions because it is not that secured once if it fails, then it is a hectic procedure to get back the money. All people having cards doesn’t mean that they are educated and India is ready for the cashless economy it may due to the social pressure.

2. The quota system should be completely removed

For: Definitely, reservation is wrong and unjustified because people here should be graded only by seeing the talents that they possess.

Against: No, it cannot be removed totally. It can be changed by giving quota to poor children from a lower background. Only then it will be a level-playing field for everyone.

3. There is a serious lack of work-life balance these days

For: These days everybody is striving to achieve their goals. They feel pressured and people fail to achieve work-life balance within the family as well as in organizations.

Against: No, flexible working arrangements should be designed by ourselves. Only to maintain the work-life balance, organizations have introduced the concept of ‘work from home’ and which gives some relaxation during the working hours.

4. Eating junk food is dangerous

For: Yes, every year the new side of diseases is growing. We have to stop eating junk food though we all know it might cause many health issues in the future and might be a heavy risk factor for our life.

Against: No, because we all know the diseases caused by junk food and we all still keep eating that blaming the unknown diseases to be attacked.

5. Social media is stopping the creativity among the youngster

For: Definitely yes. We keep on scrolling down the news feed for hours jumping from one application to another. We fail in doing and utilizing that time in reading books or writing something creative.

Against: No. Social media is not a 100 percent online distraction. We start reading the daily new and get to know what is happening in our day to day life only through social media because people are running behind money these days and they lack time.

6. Should India have one-child policy?

For: Yes the policy should be applicable. Because unemployment and the population keep on increasing and most of the people are getting affected. We have to take a look at the country's growth also sometimes. The one-child policy will benefit many people.

Against: No, India should not go for the one-child policy because we already have to see the country

with that policy. Like the gender imbalance, people here give preference for the boy baby and will be ready to abort the girl child which will affect the gender rate in India.

7. Tobacco must be banned

For: Yes, it should be banned because we already know tobacco is injurious to health. A person who consumes tobacco will face severe consequences and it will even affect people in and around him.

As people traveling without helmet and licenses are fined at the same time people who are addicted to tobacco should also be fined. Only then awareness will be created among people who are addicted to tobacco.

Against: Banning tobacco is not only a solution to stop people who got addicted to it. If we ban them illegal supply will start and there will be a huge rise in price which will become a serious issue. Banding tobacco will also give a great impact on the fall of the GDP of the country which

is a serious issue. Tobacco is one of the most revenue gaining product of our country and which can be banned only by proper planning by the government.

8. Which is important creativity or efficiency?

For: Creativity is more important without creativity efficiency cannot be judged. Creativity is an initiative to think and will showcase your talent. Creativity is the thing that gives us problem-solving power. Creativity is the implementation of our thoughts with reality in life.

Against: Not only creativity, but efficiency is also much need because without efficiency you cannot prove that your creative works are implemented. The organization expects efficiency in work rather than creativity. Since all are digitalized we need to show the work efficiency.

9. Make in India vs Make for India

For: Make in India is better than make for India as it helps to reduce the price of all the imported things from foreign countries. We invite people from other countries and ask them to run their business in our country and they give them at a lower price and also people get the opportunity to work. India is a developing country which requires more employment. Hence, different manufacturing units are required. The main purpose of this scheme is to provide employment to people who are not educated and who are in lack of skill-oriented works.

Against: Make for India is mostly people-oriented. The product is made in other countries and sold it out in our country. As we all know the population is very high it is very difficult for us to manufacture products of our own and meet up with the people’s needs immediately. We also have to know the tactics of other countries' products so that Make in India will be helpful in the nearing future.

10. We need drinking water apart from other beverages

For: As technology has developed even people in rural areas drink beverages nowadays. It is not good but they should know their health conditions. We cannot blame the industry people for manufacturing coke and so on. It is not that easy to bring a very big brand to the market without people’s support.

Against: People living in rural areas require and need only water because they are all dependent on agriculture for daily wages. Water only quenches our thirst not soft drinks. Water being the most responsible resources in living a life. Only when water is available in rural areas we will be surviving in urban areas by receiving rice from agriculture. Water is the most essential natural resource, that is essential for farming purposes.
