As per the website of National Medical Commission (NMC), around 1,36,939 MBBS or medical seats are available in India. The NMC publishes the List of College Teaching MBBS containing the names of the states, number of MBBS seats available against each state and category of seats- Government or Private.

Candidates must fulfil the given eligibility for admission to MBBS course:

  • Basic Qualification: Students should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in classes 11 and 12.
  • Age: Aspirants should be of minimum 17 years of age.
  • NEET 2026 Pass: Candidates must have cleared the NEET 2026 exam. The NEET cutoff 2026 is the benchmark to decide the qualification of candidates.
  • Seat Allotment: Candidates need to get the seat allotment letter after participating in the MCC NEET counselling for 15% AIQ or state NEET counselling for 85% state quota seats.

MBBS Admission 2026-27 Stage 1: NTA NEET Exam

The first and foremost step of the MBBS admission process was qualifying the NTA NEET 2026 exam. NEET is the only medical entrance exam conducted for admission to MBBS course. The exam was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 21, 2026, as per the prescribed NEET exam pattern and syllabus. As per the NEET syllabus, the questions were asked from Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Candidates needed to clear the exam by obtaining the qualifying percentile and cutoff marks. The second stage of the MBBS admission 2026 is participation in NEET UG counselling 2026 and obtaining the seat allotment letter. Qualified candidates need to take part either in MCC NEET Counselling for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats or for State NEET Counselling conducted by respective states for 85% state quota seats. Q:   What is the procedure to calculate the NEET percentile score?
A: 

A percentile refers to the comparison between the score of one candidate vis-a-vis the other test takers. It is the percentage of scores that a particular score surpassed. NTA has stated the formula to calculate the NEET percentile, which is given below:

100 multiplied by the Number of candidates with their raw score equal to/ less than the candidate divided by the Total number of candidates who appeared for NEET. 

As per the NEET 2023 result data, the highest percentile obtained was 99.9999019. 

Q:   Can I get admission in a Nursing course on the basis of NEET scores?
A: 

Yes, BSc Nursing course admission is conducted through NEET scores for certain colleges. Hence, if you are planning to pursue Nursing courses, then you can appear for NEET. While filling the NEET application form, you need to select the courses or colleges. If you qualify for the exam by securing the cutoff marks, and be eligible for the counselling process, there you have to select the Nursing courses or colleges which you are vying for. Yes, most paramedical Diploma and certificate courses do not require NEET entrance exam score. NEET is usually mandatory only for courses like MBBS or BDS, not standard paramedical programs. Admission to colleges for paramedical in Jaipur is generally based on Class 12 marks.
