IIT Madras: Admission, Cutoffs 2026, Fees, Courses and Ranking

Identified as an 'Institute of Eminence', the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras or IITM) was established in 1959 as a public technical and research university. It is the third IIT to be set up by the Government of India and is autonomous in nature. The institute recently launched the country's first online BSc Programme in Programming in Data Science. The MBA batch of 2023-25 comprised 93 students. The highest and average package offered during IIT Madras MBA placements in 2024 stood at INR 29.65 and INR 16.93 LPA, respectively. Yes, IIT Madras MBA admissions are open now. The institute is accepting online applications for its MBA course through the DoMS admission portal. Students must apply before the last date of application.

IIT Madras is one of the leading Engineering Institute in India. The Institute offers good placements to its students. During the placement drive 2025, median package offered to students of BTech branch such as CS, EE and CH was 46 LPA, 22.5 LPA and 17.4 LPA. In MTech, median package recorded in these branch was 24.6 LPA, 22.1 LPA and 15 LPA.

DoMS IIT Madras cutoff 2025 was published for admission to the management course, as MBA, based on the candidates' performance in the CAT entrance exam. For the General AI category, the DoMS IIT Madras CAT cutoff 2025 was 85.11 overall and 50 for all the sections, like Quants, VA-RC and DI-LR.

Candidates are selected based on valid JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced scores.

IIT Madras M.Tech fee is INR 1 lakh. This is the tuition fee only. Other components, such as hostel fee or mess fee are not added in this. Students can complete the fee payment online through the accepted gateway.

No, you cannot get direct admission to the MBA course based on the CAT score. A valid CAT score only gets you eligible to apply for the management course.

To secure your spot for the course, you have to first attain the accepted CAT cutoff and get shortlisted for the multi-stage selection process, which includes a Personal Interview (PI) and profile evaluation.  Students who clear both these criteria are eligible for the final admission offer letter. 

Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026, also called qualifying percentile for JEE Mains will be announced by the NTA along with the JEE Main 2026 session 2 result. Candidates must note that qualifying percentile for JEE Mains 2026 is the minimum percentile required to appear in JEE Advanced 2026. For admission to NIT or IIITs, there is no provision of qualifying marks in JEE Mains 2026 and admission is given based on All India Rank in JEE Mains exam. NTA will announce JEE Mains 2026 All India rank in April after session 2 exam results.

No, IIT Madras does not have the provision of direct admission. The institute admits students based on valid HSEE entrance exam scores.
