RRB Group D Salary: Promotions
The RRB conducts the RRB Group D exam for several Level-1 posts including the Track Maintainer Grade IV, Helper/Assistant, and Assistant Pointsman. Further, the employees are promoted from RRB Group D to Group C based on the departmental exams which are conducted timely and provide an opportunity for employees to take promotions. House Rent Allowance depends on city of posting. X category cities get 24 per cent (INR 4,320), Y category cities get 16 per cent (INR 2,880) and Z category cities get 8 per cent (INR 1,440) of basic pay. Additionally, Dearness Allowance of 34 per cent on basic pay is provided, which amounts to INR 6,120. Candidates are also entitled to a travel allowance based on posting location. Yes, candidates can change their states in the RRB Group D exam. This can be done by first choosing 'Application Modification' which is available in the home page of the registration portal. After candidates have chosen the preferred state, they need to pay a non-refundable fee of INR 100 for modifying the application. Once candidates have successfully paid the application fee they can make the necessary changes and then submit it. Please note that candidates will not be able to edit your registration number, email id, mobile number, and your zone. Candidates are required to fill the application form online. The application fee is INR 500 (for all candidates except the fee concession categories). The fee for PwBD/Female /Transgender/ Ex-Servicemen/SC/ST/Minority Communities/ Economically Backward Class is INR 250.

Railways offer good opportunities to its employees in terms of promotion. Candidates joining the post of RRB Group D are promoted after three years of services through the departmental exams. There are no rules for RRB Group D promotion and increment. It depends on seniority and vacancies in the various departments. After not being promoted for 10 years of service, the RRB Group D Salary is increased with arrears up to the current date. The hierarchy of promotion of Railway Group D is given below:
- Technician S Grade 3

Railway Recruitment Board decide on the salary of Group D railway staff. The RRB Group D Salary comes under level 1 salary as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). The pay structure of an Indian Railway Group-D staff is as follows: 1. The pay scale ranges between INR 5200 to INR 20200 2. The basic pay is INR 18,000. 3. The grade pay that Group D is entitled to is INR 1800. 4. They also receive House Rent Allowance, which varies by city and may be anywhere between 8% to 24%. 5. The dearness allowance of Group D is revised to INR 6,120. Therefore, the in hand salary at the starting level for Group D staff at the junior level can be up to INR 27,920, excluding travel allowance.

RRB Group D Probation period is 2 years. Candidates will have to take the training for a period of 2 years, and then will be able to start their job as an RRB Group D Officer.

RRB Group D selection process comprises CBT, PET/PST, document verification and medical exam. The transgender candidates are given relaxation in the PET. CCAAs trained in railway establishment are given due weightage of marks obtained in their NCVT exam in preparation of final merit list after the conduct of CBT. Based on the performance of candidates in CBT subject to their qualifying in PER, candidates are called for document verification as per their merit and options. In case of two or more candidates secure same marks, their merit position is determined by age criteria i.e., older person is placed at higher merit and in case age is same, then alphabetical order (A to Z) of the name is taken into account to break the tie. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates. All candidates clearing the DV are called for medical exam. RRBs/RRCs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered only by the respective Railway Administrations.
After document verification in RRB Group D exam, candidates are called for a medical test. It is mandatory to clear the medical test to be considered for the recruitment exam. The medical fitness test is conducted by the railway administration to ensure that the candidates are medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post. The near vision should be Sn/ 0.6, 0.6 without glasses and must pass tests for color vision, binocular vision, night vision, mesopic vision, etc. Distant vision should be 6 / 9, 6 / 9 with or without glasses (power of lenses should not exceed 2D).
Indian Railways give HRA to the selected candidates depending on the job location. The HRA is calculated based on the category of cities employees are posted. The HRA is calculated in the following manner.
