NIFT Entrance Exam 2023 - National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will conduct the written exams for NIFT 2023 tentatively in the 1st week of February 2023. The exam will comprise the GAT and CAT written tests, which will be administered in offline mode. 

Candidates seeking admission to B.Des and M.Des have to take both CAT and GAT, whereas B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M candidates only need to take the GAT.

The application form for NIFT 2023 will OPEN around the 1st week of December 2022

The NIFT 2023 entrance exam will be conducted in two stages:

  1. Candidates first appear in the written tests 
  2. Next, scores of the written test will be used to shortlist candidates for a Situation Test/ GDPI.  

The FINAL result for NIFT 2023 will be prepared by giving weightage to each test component.  

NIFT 2023 will have 17 participating NIFTs, offering a combined seat intake of 5, 023 seats. These include 4,188 All-India seats, 377 state domicile seats, and 458 NRI seats.

NIFT Application Form 2023

The National Institute of Fashion Technology will start the online registration process for NIFT 2023 tentatively in the 1st week of December; the institute will also release a detailed notification along with the application form on its official website - niftadmissions.in.

How to fill the NIFT 2023 registration form

  1. Online registration - To register, you will have to enter details like email id and phone number. On successful registration, an applicant account will be created.
  2. Fill in the form - Next, you have to fill in various sections like academic, category, and personal details. Also, select an exam center from the drop-down menu. 
  3. Upload documents - Scanned copies of photograph, signature, and other documents have to be uploaded in the given format
  4. Pay the application fee - The application fee of INR 3,000 (INR 1,500 for reserved categories) will have to be paid online using a credit card, debit card, or net banking.

NIFT Exam Centres 2023

The list of exam centers will be released with the exam notification. The design entrance exam is usually conducted in 32 cities across India. Candidates can select only one exam city at the time of filling out the NIFT application form. However, NIFT reserves the right to cancel an examination center without any prior notice. In such a case, an alternate center will be allotted to the aspirant.

NIFT Exam Pattern 2023

Candidates appearing in the design entrance exam must carefully go through the exam pattern for NIFT 2023.

The NIFT 2023 entrance exam will be conducted in two parts:

  • Written Tests - The candidate first appears in the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT) written tests. The GAT test is mandatory for all the programs, but only  B.Des and M.Des candidates have to take the CAT test. The written tests will be conducted tentatively in the 1st week of February. 
  • Situation Test / Group Discussion and Personal Interview  - The scores of the written tests (CAT and GAT) will be used to shortlist candidates for a Situation Test (B.Des)/ GDPI (all PG programs). The results for the written exam will be declared sometime in March. 

Note that B.F.Tech candidates don’t need to appear in any further rounds, as the merit list for admission will be prepared solely on the basis of GAT scores.

NIFT Situation Test/GDPI 2023

The situation test for the B.Des program will be conducted in offline mode. Candidates who have qualified in the NIFT 2023 written tests and participated in the choice filling process can participate in the situation test. As part of the choice filling process, candidates have to select their choice of participating institutes in the order of priority.

Candidates will be shortlisted for the GDPI for the M.Des program based on GAT and CAT written tests. However, for MFTech and MFM courses, candidates will be shortlisted based on GAT scores only. Mode of Situation Test / GDPI - Offline

NIFT Syllabus 2023

The NIFT exam syllabus will contain the topics that the candidate needs to prepare for the exam. The written tests for NIFT 2023 comprise the CAT and GAT tests. The GAT is a paper-based test that includes multiple-choice questions.

Quantitative Ability

This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The sub test consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.

Communication Ability and English Comprehension

This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, comprehend a situation from a given passage etc.

Analytical Ability and Logical Ability

This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s capacity for inference and logic from the given information and to evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify the given problem and apply reasoning in solving the core issues of the problem. Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.

Case Study

This sub-test is based on a situation of an industry environment. It helps to evaluate the candidate’s managerial ability.

NIFT Entrance Exam 2023 Important Dates

The schedule for NIFT 2023 isn't out yet. However, candidates may go through the tentative schedule.

Admission to the participating NIFTs will be on the basis of merit ranks secured by candidates in the NIFT 2023 entrance exam. The step-wise admission process is mentioned below.

NIFT Selection Process 2023

 

Step 1: Fill out NIFT Application Form 2023

Candidates need to fill out the application form online on the official website. When filling the form, only genuine and verifiable information must be used; note that every detail will be checked during the document verification process.

Step 2: Download NIFT Admit Card

Admit cards will be issued to candidates post successful registration. The candidate can download admit cards online from the official website; no hard copy of the hall ticket will be sent by post. 

Step 3: Appear in NIFT 2023 written tests

The candidate has to next appear in the written tests - GAT and CAT. The written tests will be administered in a paper-based mode.

Step 4: Declaration of results for the written exam

To check their results, the candidate will have to log in to the result portal. The scores of the written tests will be used to shortlist candidates for the next round.

Candidates shortlisted for the B.Des course have to appear in a Situation Test, while P.G candidates have to appear in a Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GDPI)   

Step 5: Appear for NIFT Situation Test or GD/PI

The Situation Test round (B.Des) will test the material handling skills of the candidate. P.G candidates need to appear for the Group Discussion/Personal Interview round. 

Step 6:  Declaration of FINAL results

The final NIFT would be prepared by giving weightage to each tech component. Also, the final results or merit rank will be used for seat allotment.

Step 7:  Appear for NIFT Counselling

The counseling process will be conducted online and include multiple rounds. Shortlisted candidates will have to get registered and participate in choice filling. The allotment of seats will be based on the NIFT 2023 merit rank of the candidate and choice opted at the time of registration.

NIFT Mock Tests 2023

The National Institute of Fashion Technology may mock tests for NIFT 2023. These mock tests will be conducted so that the candidate gets familiar with the exam pattern, and understand various functionalities. However, the questions asked in the mock tests and the test duration may be different from what will be asked in the actual exam. The mock tests will also help candidates test their exam infrastructure readiness.

During the NIFT 2022 mock tests, the candidates will be allowed to ask queries related to the exam. A hotline may be created by exam officials to answer student queries. 

  • The mock tests can be taken by all candidates
  • These tests will be held for all courses on specific dates in two sessions - morning and evening
  • Candidates will be put in groups based on their roll numbers.
  • Invigilators / AI will not block access to the system during the mock test even though there is a system breach/ disconnection, etc. 

NIFT Admit Card 2023

The admit cards for the exam will be available for download tentatively in the last week of January 2023. It has to be downloaded online by entering one's login credentials. An essential document for appearing in the design entrance exam, the admit card will contain details like the name, roll number, name and address of the allotted NIFT exam center 2023, and exam-day guidelines. On the day of the exam, the candidate has to bring with them a valid photo id proof along with the admit card.

How to download the NIFT 2023 admit card

  2. A login window will open
  3. Enter your six-digit application number, email id, and DOB
  4. On login, the admit card will be displayed in downloadable pdf format
  5. Download and take a printout of the admit card.

Note: The candidate has to check that the details mentioned in the admit card are correct, including the name. In case there is any discrepancy in the admit card, the candidate has to get in touch with exam officials and get it rectified.

NIFT 2023 Answer Key

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will release the NIFT 2023 answer keys for the objective-based GAT question paper tentatively in the 3rd week of February 2023. It will contain the official answers to all the questions in the entrance exam and can be used by the candidate to calculate probable scores. The OMR answer sheet will also be released. Note that candidates are allowed to carry the GAT question paper after completion of the NIFT 2023 entrance exam.

Candidates who have any objections against the OMR answer sheet, answer key, or question paper can raise objections/ observations on payment of a fee of Rs. 500 per observation/ objections.

NIFT Results 2023 

The National Institute of Fashion Technology will declare the results of the NIFT 2023 result for the CAT and GAT written test tentatively in the 2nd week of March 2023. The result will be released online at the official website of NIFT - nift.ac.in. Note that no hard copies are sent to the candidate. 

The scores of the written exam will be used to shortlist candidates for the situation test/group discussion and personal interview round. Candidates who get shortlisted need to register for the situation test/ GDPI.

NIFT 2023 Final Result

The final result for NIFT 2023 will be released tentatively in May 2023. To prepare the final merit list, the admission committee will consider the performance of the candidate in the Situation Test/ GDPI and written tests (GAT and CAT).

The final merit list will be considered for NIFT 2023 seat allotment process.

Q. When will the NIFT 2023 application form commence?

A. The application form for the NIFT 2023 entrance exam will commence tentatively in the 1st week of December. The NIFT application form is for admission to the B.Des, B.F.Tech, M.Des, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M courses offered by the participating institutes. Candidates can fill the NIFT 2023 application form in online mode at - niftadmissions.in; the admission link will also be provided on this page once it is LIVE.

Q. What is the syllabus for NIFT entrance exam?

A. For BDes and MDes course admissions, candidates need to appear for CAT and GAT. NIFT Syllabus for CAT is such that candidates need to attempt drawing questions in the paper. Some topics that candidates should practice while preparing for the exam are design theory, creative thinking, and writing, elements and principles of design, principles of composition, etc. For GAT, candidates should study topics such as quantitative ability, English comprehension, logical reasoning, etc. 

Q. Is there any age limit for appearing in NIFT 2023?

A. In case of the B.Des and B.F.Tech programmes, the candidates should be less than 24 years as on July 1, 2023. There is relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories. However, there is no age limit for applying to the postgraduate programmes at NIFT. 

Q. What is the basis of NIFT 2023 seat allotment process?

The allotment of seats will be based on: 
  • Choice opted at the time of cousenselling registration (academic programs + campuses)
  • The category of the candidate
  • Seat intake in the college opted for admission
  • NIFT 2023 merit rank of the candidate.

Q. When will the NIFT 2023 answer key be released?

A. The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) released the NIFT 2022 answer key on February 21, 2022. Candidateds were also allowed to challenge the answer key on payment of a fee of INR 500 (per objection).

Q. Will the NIFT answer key 2023 released for both CAT and GAT?

A. The NIFT 2022 answer key will only be released for the GAT written test. Note that candidates are allowed to take away the GAT question paper

Q. How can I check NIFT exam results 2023?

A. Aspirants can view NIFT result 2023 for BDes, BFTech, MDes, MFM and MFTech course admission on the official website of the design school ( https://applyadmission.net/ ). In the log-in window, enter your roll number, date of birth, and application number.

Q. When will NIFT results 2023 be declared?

A. The result for written test for BDes, MDes, MFTech and MFM courses was released for all undergraduate and postgraduate courses around the 2nd week of March. Note that scores of the written test are used to shortlist candidates for Situation Test (B.Des) and Personal Interview and Group Discussion (postgraduate programs).
