Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur released the GATE 2023 application form on August 30, 2022. The exam conducting authority has already announced the GATE 2023 schedule on July 27, 2022. GATE 2023 is conducted for various subjects including Mechanical Engineering. Students who are desired to get enrolled into M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering through GATE must know all the important details about it. GATE 2023 registrations has been started and the application form will remain available online till September 30, 2022, and the last date to apply for the same with a late fee amount is October 7, 2022. In 2023, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will conduct the exam across 219 cities in India and abroad.

Yes. Candidates who have completed their B.Sc can appear in GATE exam. The eligibility criteria for appearing in the GATE exam wa changes in 2021 and now B.Sc/BA graduates are also eligible to appear in GATE exam. As per the revised GATE eligibility criteria,
A candidate who is currently studying in the third or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or who has already completed any government approved degree program in Engineering/Technology/ Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities is eligible to appear for GATE 2024.

GATE 2023 Eligibility Criteria: Mechanical Engineering
It is important for every candidate aspiring for GATE 2023 to check the eligibility criteria prescribed for the exam by the authorities. Any candidate failing to fulfil the eligibility criteria for GATE 2023 will not be allowed to appear for the exam or in any processes ahead. Scope of Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical engineering is considered the evergreen branch among all other engineering branches. Mechanical engineers deal with the concepts of mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, power sector, and aerospace. Along with the private sector, various Public Sector Units (PSUs) like BHEL, BEL, and SAIL etc. accept the GATE score for the recruitment of candidates in various positions. There is a great scope of job avenues in the following sectors for mechanical engineers in India and abroad:
After declining/rejecting the offer (s) in a particular round, you will not be considered for the same offer (s). In case, you have given higher preferences in M.Tech. Application, then you may be considered for the higher preferences in the subsequent round (s) of offers based on the availability of vacancies and merit list, within the rules of that institute. Also, after the last/final round at COAP no offers will be available at COAP. For any offer/admission related matter, candidates must visit the respective Academic Institutes Admission Portal.
Passing marks in GATE exam is different for all 30 papers. The GATE qualifying mark for PSUs recruitment is also different. Candidates appearing in any GATE paper have to obtain the minimum mark in order to be declared qualified for the exam. Only qualified candidates are considered for admission to MTech/MSc/PhD programs and the MHRD scholarship. Candidates can check the previous year GATE cutoff for various papers on the Shiksha page or from the GATE official website.

GATE CCMT counselling is expected to start in June/July. Students who have qualified in GATE exam 2026 and want to take admission in NITs and other engineering colleges must register and participate in CCMT. The dates will be updated here for each round.

GATE 2026 Electronics and Communication paper will be conducted on February 15 in the first shift. Students who have regsitered for EC paper must download their admit card on January 2.

IIT Guwahati will conduct GATE CSE exam on February 8, 2026 in two shifts. The CS1 will be held in first shift and CS2 in second shift. The exam timings can be checked below-
- CS1 paper - 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
- CS2 paper- 2:30 am to 5:30 pm

No, the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering examination takes place once a year. Every year, different IITs and IISc conduct exam on rotational basis. GATE is conducted online for three hours for 30 branch papers.

Yes, applicants who have qualified GATE exam are also eligible for WBUT PGET. Candidates must have a valid GATE scorecard. However, students have to appear for a personal interview round. Students must mention their GATE scorecard in the application form.
