Along with CBSE board syllabus, is the JEE Main 2021 syllabus reduced? Read the article below to clarify your doubts.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the reduction of the syllabus for students studying from 9th to 12th standard. This decision has been done taking into consideration the loss of classroom teaching due to the current pandemic situation. While discussions regarding the reduction of JEE Main syllabus were also ongoing, Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has clarified that except JEE Main exam pattern and dates, nothing else will be revised. However, since JEE Main and CBSE has a strong link between them, students have been curious to know what exactly will be the impact of the reduced CBSE syllabus on JEE Main 2021.

What exactly is CBSE Syllabus reduction?
Since the ongoing COVID situation has led to online classrooms and exam, the education sector has been hit with a crisis. Despite the attempt of the teachers to make the students feel no difference between the online and offline classes, students have often made complaints about the difficulties of online classes and exams.

To help the students with their struggles, CBSE has reduced the syllabus from 9th to 12th standard by 30%. No core topics have been removed, but it is certainly expected to relieve the students so that they can concentrate more on their studies.
Will the CBSE syllabus reduction impact JEE Main 2021?
Currently, MHRD has clearly stated that the syllabus of JEE Main 2021 will not be subjective to any change. While changes in the exam pattern has been announced, this does not correlate directly with the CBSE syllabus reduction. The difference of syllabus between CBSE and JEE Main 2021 has left many students confused, instead of being relieved. So does this mean that students will have to prepare for the omitted CBSE topics by themselves or through their affiliated academy? Or will the National Testing Agency (NTA) directly omit these topics while preparing the JEE Main 2021 question paper?
Students are being quite vocal about their confusion regarding the impact of reduced CBSE syllabus on JEE Main 2021. As of now, the reduction is not to make any great impact on JEE Main 2021. The students are advised to prepare as usual and to take help from academies and also their teachers regarding the entire syllabus of JEE Main. Since a new JEE Main 2021 exam pattern has been introduced by the Education Minister, the students should check the new pattern and accordingly prepare for the upcoming examination.
The list of the reduced syllabus for 9th to 12th standard are mentioned at the official website of CBSE. While the teachers have been given instructions to cover the reduced topics at a basic level, it is likely that the topics will be forgotten and not taught to the students.
What is the new JEE Main exam pattern?
NTA has announced the revised exam pattern of JEE Main 2021. Through the new exam pattern, the students will have more questions to choose from during JEE Main 2021. Changes have been made to both the papers of JEE Main – Paper 1 (BTech) and Paper 2 (BArch and BPlanning). To make the examination more flexible for the students, JEE Main is being conducted in four sessions this year. The entire examination will be held as a computer-based examination, except for the drawing section of Paper 2 (BArch), in different centres all over India.

How should future aspirants prepare for JEE Main?
Since the syllabus has been reduced for the current students who are studying from 9th to 12th standards, they are likely to experience the same syllabus for future JEE Main too. The students are advised to focus on core topics, but to get more insight and information, the omitted topics should also be checked once in a while. This will give more depth to the student’s knowledge and is likely to increase his/her chance to score well in JEE Main.

While a JEE Main score isn't strictly mandatory for everyone, having one is a big plus. Amity University Mohali mostly looks at your school grades (merit-based), but a good JEE Main score makes your application stronger. High scores in national exams can also help you qualify for scholarships.

Mahatma Gandhi Engineering College considers JEE Main scores for admission into BTech programme. But, it is not compulsory exam for taking admission in BTech in this college. The college can also provide admission based on merit in Class 12 for the candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria.
