JEE Main 2021 result for March session has been announced by NTA. Mridul Agarwal, the JEE Main 2021 topper from Rajasthan secured perfect 300/300 score with 100 percentile in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as well as overall 100 percentile. Shiksha.com conducted the exclusive interview with Mridul to know his JEE Main 2021 preparation strategy, books he referred and how he achieved this feat. My main focus for JEE Main 2021 was to cover the entire syllabus, study basic concepts, revise topics regularly and solve previous year papers and mock exams, says Mridul. How do you feel on being the JEE Main 2021 topper with perfect 300/300 score?
It feels really good. I had also appeared in February session and my score was 99.9 percentile. In March session, I appeared with the mindset of improving my marks and scored 100 percentile in all three subjects with perfect 300 score.

I was born and bought-up in Jaipur, Rajasthan. I am currently studying in class 12 in St. Xaviers School Jaipur and will be appearing in my board exams in May.
Tell us about your JEE Main 2021 preparation
I started preparing for JEE Mains 2021 from my class 11. While I was in my class 11, I use to study the topics which were taught in school and for JEE Mains from the coaching institute in enrolled into. When I was in class 12, the lockdown happened which in a way helped me prepare effectively as I got extra time. The schools were closed and I was having ample time to study. Online classes from coaching institute helped me prepare for the JEE Mains.
Did you joined any coaching institute for JEE Mains prepartion?
Yes! I joined Allen Institute for my JEE preparation. The study materials from the institute helped me a lot in understanding the concepts and clear the doubts.
What was your JEE Main preparation strategy? Which subject did you focus on more and why?
I use to study as per the JEE Main syllabus. NCERTs are a must for JEE Mains. I studied NCERT books for all three subjects 2-3 times so that I know all the basic concepts. I regularly studied all the topics which are asked in the exam and made sure that I revise them in regular intervals to keep them in mind.
Which books did you specifically referred for the preparation?
I mainly studied NCERT books. Beside NCERTs, I studied the study materials which was provided by the coaching institutes.
Tell something about the JEE Main 2021 exam. How were the questions, which topics were covered?
The exam was easy in comparison to February attempt. Physics and Chemistry part was easy while the Maths part was a little difficult. Questions were asked almost from all topics of class 11 and 12. Chemistry was mostly NCERT based.
How helpful are previous year papers and mock exams for JEE Main preparation?
Previous year papers and mock exams are very useful. JEE Mains questions are set as per a predefined patter and if we solve previous year papers and mock exams, it will surely help in the exam. I also practices previous year papers and mock exams from NTA app National Test Abhyas.
What is your future plan about higher education?
I want to pursue computer science in IIT Bombay but right now my main focus in getting a good rank in JEE Advanced 2021.
What is your advice to students who will be appearing in upcoming JEE Main sessions?
I would say that study with your heart and learn all the basic concepts. Revise topics regularly and solve previous year papers.
Who is your ideal and how did they helped you in JEE Main preparation?
My parents and teachers are my biggest inspirations. They helped and motivated me throughout my preparation phase which made me achieve this feat.
Will you be appearing in April and May sessiosn of JEE Mains 2021?
No! I will not be appearing in April and May sessions and my complete focus is now JEE Advanced and my board exams.

The JEE Mains cutoff of 2026 has not been released yet. However, in 2025 the closing rank for the general category for BTech in AI and ML was 1843344. In 2024 the closing rank for SDEC BTech AI and ML was 737084.

No, Cluster Innovation Centre does not accept JEE Mains for BTech admissions. Students must appear for the CUET exam and participate in CSAS counselling. No other admission tests including JEE are considered by the college.

Yes, students can get admission in DIT University Admission Office BTech without appearing for JEE Main. The univeristy offers direct admissions to top 10% of Class 12 board toppers. Students can connect with the university to know more.

Yes, candidates must appear for JEE Mains to qualify for Poornima Institute of Engineering and Technology BTech course. The institute folllows REAP guidelines to select candidates for BTech admissions. Only if some seats are left vacant after admission process can candidates be chosen without JEE Ma

No, VIT Vellore BTech admission is not decided through JEE Mains scores. Candidates who wish to apply for BTech must appear in VITEEE only in order to qualify for VIT Vellore admission. No other entrance exams have been mentioned as alternatives to VITEEE.

NMIT Bangalore reserves 2% seats for candidates with JEE Main score of at least 75. JEE category aspirants are eigible for Merit Scholarship seats, provided they score a minimum of 85 NTA score and not less than 80% aggregate in PCM in Class 12. The ranking is based on JEE Main NTA score.

No, JEE Main is not compulsory for taking admission in the BTech programme at JECRC University. Candidates can get admission based on their merit in Class 12 exam. However, students with JEE Main score are preferred more for admission.
