This is really a crucial moment where you are in absolute confusion. Exams are over and you are in stress. First, congrats for doing hard work during the preparations. Now, this whole talk is going to be theoretical because this is a subjective topic, more like an opinion based on probabilities.
Prerequisites
No need to be nervous. The syllabus of a particular course in any college in India is almost the same, rest matters on faculty, resources, and infrastructure. This is all matters but in the end, job opportunities are something on which we can count on. This absolutely depends on your caliber and disciplined hard work.
Explore colleges based on JEE Main
Drop or no drop?
I would not recommend you to drop for two years in my perception. The rest is up to you and on your hard work.
Here we will discuss different scenarios based on rank, colleges, and placements.
- Cutoff Crossed: Here you are eligible for various colleges. You have a good 12th score and good You get a college.

- Now let's talk about colleges:
- 1st Tier (IITs, NIITs): Reputed colleges & decent Packages
- 2nd Tier Colleges(Thapar College, RV College, NIT Kr, NIT Hamirpur): Decent Packages
- 3rd Tier Colleges: Not in the spotlight
- If you are getting any college from 1st Tier or 2nd Tier and are satisfied with it, go ahead and grab the best college
- If you are getting any college from 2nd Tier but not satisfied then by proper analysis:
- Take advice from seniors, faculties and discuss your score or the other best colleges you can get in this case
- In case you are getting good tier 2 college with good placement record and reputation, it's your call then if you want to drop or not. In my perception, you can take the college but if you are getting a 2nd Tier college then there is a chance that you have prepared well, this time you can boost your rank and get a better college
- In case you are getting a satisfactory 2nd Tier college and don’t want to repeat, grab that college
- Now let's talk about colleges:
- Cutoff Not Crossed: If you have realised your mistakes and want to give a next chance without having You may give it a second chance.

- 3rd Tier College: Are you okay with that because it is 100 per cent possible to get the decent package here but the effort could be doubled. But it is possible to trust me just go ahead on quora.
- Don’t want 3rd Tier College: One year gap is still okay. You can take it if you have calculated all the risks. Again that’s your call. Many students make it next year.
- Talk to seniors, faculties and if you don’t have one just go ahead and find one
- Be patient, do weekly analysis and revise properly and practice
Two-year drop?
In my point of view, a two-year drop isn’t very wise decision, the stakes are high. This academic gap matters. Getting a 2nd Tier college in the second attempt is still fine. You will get:
- Decent package
- Good personality
- Good college life
Practically, the fact that getting a good college will make things easier is true. But if you are willing to make your college life as well as academic career great in 2nd Tier/ 3rd Tier Colleges, you can absolutely do it but will require more work and effort which is not impossible.
But awareness and proper research are recommended in each case. Be wise and good luck for the new college.

JEE Main exam is not mandatory for admission in Prestige University BTech courses. Students can apply with a valid score of other entrance exams as well. The other accepted exams are CUET/ SAT/ ACT and PU Aptitude Test.

Yes, SRM do accepts JEE Main score for admission to a few programs at certain campuses. As per the details available in the official website - "Any Candidate qualified in IIT JEE Main/SAT will be admitted directly even if the candidate doesn't take SRMJEEE."

Yes, UV Patel College of Engineering accepts JEE Main marks for taking admission in the BE/BTech courses. The college also accepts score from GUJCET exam for BTech admissions. Candidates have to undergo counselling and fill the application form of college.
