Commonly asked questions On Top Ranked NLUs Colleges in India: Ranking 2025, Admissions, Fees, Courses, Placements
The cutoff depends on a host of different factors like 1) the seat intake for the programme 2) the total applications received for admission 3) the CLAT merit rank of applicants, 4) category and 5) the NIRF Ranking or the popularity of the NLU. Now, given these factors may vary for each NLU, the cutoff would also vary accordingly. Candidates must note that they will be allotted NLU on the basis of marks, rank and the preference they have filled while submitting the CLAT Application Form 2025.
CLAT is the entrance examination conducted by consortium of NLUs for UG and PG courses. All 21 NLU except NLU Delhi take admission by way of CLAT scores in both PG and UG courses. NLU Delhi conducts it's separate examination called All India Law Entrance Test or AILET for UG, PG and Ph.D. programs. Further many other private university consider CLAT score for admission in Law courses.
For many aspiring lawyers, getting into one of the best National Law Universities (NLUs) in India via CLAT is their goal. Although the procedure is competitive, you can improve your chances of getting a seat if you prepare well and follow instructions. Below is a summary of the admissions procedure:
- Eligibility Criteria: Students must have passed Class 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board with at least 50% aggregate marks.
- CLAT: The exam consists of sections; Legal Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, English Language, Quantitative Techniques and Current Affairs. Each section carries 20 marks, making the total score 100.
- Application: Candidates are required to fill the online application form available on the official CLAT website and pay the application fee that varies depending on your category (General/SC/ST/OBC/PwD/EWS).
- CLAT Scorecard: It will indicate your overall rank and your section wise score.
- Counselling: Based on candidates' rank and preferences, candidates will be eligible for counselling rounds and can choose their preferred NLUs and programs. Seat allotment will be based on your rank and availability of seats in your preferred colleges.
- Document Verification: After allotment of seat in NLU you will need to report the designated centre for document verification. After verification and payment of fees you will be officially admitted to the NLU.
Candidates can click below for help regarding CLAT:
Students who wish to be admitted to this university should strive for a score of roughly 70% (80-84 marks) or above under the revised pattern. Because the CLAT cut-off marks are lower for reserved categories, a rank of about 4000 would be suitable for admission. According to CLAT 2024 analysis, candidates from the general category should aim for a score of 90 or more in order to be admitted to one of the top three NLUs. In CLAT 2024, 60–70 points are considered a decent score for SC/ST categories. The Consortium of NLUs will release the closing rank of candidates for each round at the time of CLAT counselling.
